Default comptech supercharger and tuning.....question

Hey guys,

I'm looking at buying a Comptech supercharged S2000, but I'm having a hard time understanding how exactly the tuning works. I know there is something about the ESM that blocks the signal of boost to the ECU. The main thing I don't understand is how the timing is controlled. I tried doing a search but i couldn't get a very good answer. I'd like to use this car as a daily driver, and I have seen a lot of Comptech supercharged S2ks running for thousands of miles. I just want to learn a little bit more about the car before I make the plunge.

Thanks in advance

Don't think you need any type of tune..I believe it's bolt and go...

The ESM simply hides boost from the ECU while the FMU ramps up fuel pressure under boost. Basically you just bolt the kit on, start the car, check for leaks, and drive.

^ So how much psi can you run before needing a tune?

OP: Are you Ap1 or Ap2? I too am very close to making a Comptech purchase and have found the following out.

7psi on an AP2 you do not need to change injectors or get a EMU. From my understanding, VAFC2 with a little tune to help with fuel delivery and setting vtec engagment, set the fpr correctly, get a few guages for monitoring such as AEM wideband, boost, and egt,......not so sure which are necessary, but should be good to go after this. Anything above 8psi for ap1 or 7psi for ap2 and you will need to upgrade injectors and get an EMU.

Dont quote me on this, im hoping S2000junky can chime in since he is a good mentor.

better check your IATs before assuming that at 7 psi you do not need to retard timing.

7 psi with IATs near ambient because of a good A2W or A2A and no timmign retard

ok may be
if you are not seeing signs of knock on the knock sensor voltage reading.

7psi with IATs in the +160F range;; not a good idea to leave your setup at stock timing.

From what I've found the Esm simply hides boost from the factory map electronically, but does nothing to timing. So if that is correct couldn't you install the missing link inbetween the map sensor and hide the boost mechanicaly instead of electronically?

The original Comptech kit came with a Missing Link MAP spacer. It wasn't very effective.

They then tried the ESM black box. It works best when soldered.

I have both the ESM and a missing link.
