If you are going to open it up already, put better stuff back in. I wouldn't open the factory block up unless you are going for 650+.

Because in 2006 (when the question was initially asked), the limits of this motor may have not been the common knowledge that it is today.

Well that's a fact. I figure everyone has had time to get up to speed by now, but guess not.

Rod strength isn't the problem. Oem bearings clearances are. If you are unlucky enough to get a motor on the tight end of the spec, that .0007" clearance wont last too long.

Valvetrain will go WAY before shortblock will, on a proper tune.
