this happened to me once before too. my problem was i was pushing the car very hard on a really hot day and my coolant was literally boiling and i shut the car off thereby stopping it from flowing through the radiator. this made some of it boil out from the top of the reserve tank.

after driving you car hard did you let it idle for awhile to let the coolant cool down some? if not that could have been your problem too

what kinda coolant are you guys running? I was gonna do straight water + water wetter. Right now I just have some prestone + wetter + water. I read somewhere that prestone isnt good for our coolant system or something...did i read that right?

Dude, if your coolant is boiling, your car is running too hot. I think you can get to 220+ without that stuff boiling. I am running the same Prestone 50/50 mix.

And do NOT run the car with the radiator cap off... If you do, make sure you have a funnel on the top of the neck, filled a little bit with coolant. If you do not have the funnel on there, it will puke coolant all over the radiator/engine bay.

I would also rent a radiator pressure tester. That will definitively tell you whether there is ANY leak in your system. Make sure you do it with a warm motor (will have to refill the radiator after the test, as it will spit a little bit at you when you pop the radiator cap (fluid expands, creating pressure in the system).

don't drive your car with it overheating. You are very likely to overheat and warp the head. This has happened to me a few times, and everytime a headgasket change fixed the problem. Its annoying, but throw the heat on and see if you get hot air out the vents. Oh wait, you took that out right?

pull the radiator cap off and heat up the car like you would when bleeding the system. feel if the lower radiator tube gets cold. Im going out, but will write a full explanation later.

I warped my head almost to the point it could not be machined by driving on it hot... That was before the rebuilt, of course... And I never saw temps higher than 225* on my serial gauge.

I would also heat the system up, and squeeze the lower radiator pipe. If there is little pressure, you have a leak somewhere.

RENT A RADIATOR PRESSURE TESTER ASAP.

i hate to say but your HG is definitely done for. Replace the HG and resurface the head and it should be good as new. Mine didn't overheat as much as you described and I warped the head and trashed the HG. good luck homie
