Default Cost ($) of Turbocharging / Supercharging

Hi guys,

So I'm finally gonna buy myself an S2000, and am considering FI. I am a complete novice when it comes to this though, and would appreciate some input. Could someone please give me a ball park figure on what it would cost to upgrade the car to approximately 400 whp? Like parts, labour (not doing the work myself), other necessary upgrades to handle the power (clutch, suspension, brakes, etc.). Looks like turbo/supercharging kits are running around C$7.5k, but I really have no idea what installation/other parts would cost. Trying to get this done without blowing my brains out financially, so I'm definitely not looking for polished anodized everything under the hood.

Thanks a lot for input,

Nick

At least $10,000 for a setup.

Don't know about the exchange rate, or differences in parts costs across the border, but setting a budget of $10k USD is a pretty good starting point if you're buying everything new and paying someone else to do all of the work. I can't speak to turbochargning, but for s/c:

S/C kit - $5.5k+
S/C labor - $1k+
Wideband, boost gauge, pod $400+
Clutch & flywheel (no flywheel needed if AP1, imo) - $600+
Clutch labor - $600+
Engine management - $1k+
Fuel - $600+
Tuning - $300-1000+

Driver training & experience before doubling the car's HP - Priceless

How do you know you want/need 400whp if you don't even own the car yet? In my opinion, you should own & drive the car at least a year before considering FI, unless you already have a good bit of experience with high hp lightweight cars. The car is VERY capable out of the box, unless you're doing highway pulls or drag racing. If you're interested in the car for those two reasons, you're buying the wrong car.

Edit - forgot tuning, and tweaked some prices

Thanks for the responses. As Habitforming mentioned, I live in Canada, anyone know how the FX rate might affect the cost of the project?

Also, I'm not set on FI, will definitely drive the car for a bit before doing anything, was just curious.

Kraftwerks SC kit with basically everything you need for 400whp, non-group buy price, around $5,300.

My clutch setup was around $700. ACT pressure plate, streetlite flywheel, oem friction disk and bearings.

Labor for a clutch install is around $600-800

Labor for SC kit install is around $800-1,200

Tuning is around $600.

So ballpark figure and not doing any of the work yourself $8,000 - $10,000

$10k will get you started correctly, then you can figure on an increased budget for maintenance afterwards as well. Good Luck

Pretty much what everyone stated, about $10K+ for the average person. I spent $7K on my set up by cutting out labor cost and doing the install/turbo install myself.

It may be a bit of a drive for you, but we have done installations for some customers from Canada before. We also have the best pricing on these kits, hands down! Feel free to send me a PM.
