Default Custom rear diff!

So yesterday I was getting new hangers put on my exhaust and I realized i totally forgot to make a thread about the rear I had put in my s2, I tried to take some pics through out the process, not trying to market a kit or anything just sharing what I did, I couldn't find myself paying 4-5k for a rear setup, not saying its not worth it but me no lol, I've had this kit together going on 5-6 months now I've purposly tried to break it at times doesn't even budge lol I have 600whp so far it's been a great solution, I was scared at first of the gear ratio which is 3.70 (you can buy 4.10 gears if you like) but after having it, it's great! The gas mileage in 6th is amazing, me and a friend with a s2000 use to be side by side when we raced (same hp) now I put 2 to 2 1/2 cars on him because of the gear ratio, its crazy before It seemed like I went threw the gears so fast but with this setup seems perfect, 3rd gear is a monster lol, well ig that's my little story thanks for reading ill try to reply to all if any questions I also can help if you want to try, took me about 2 days, one day putting rear in 2nd day measuring and ordering the driveshaft at a local shop ( the axels took a week to come in but you get the point )

Price:
350 - 300zx tt r230
150. - trans flange
80. - rear flange
500 - to be fabricated by a friend
250 - driveshaft & two flanges
1000 - driveshaft axels

2400 = totall price

Nice work! That's a clever configuration; specifically, replacing the stock lateral brace with material capable of supporting the front of diff

Nice! Any more pics of the brackets you made, and how the diff is mounted? I'm looking at a new diff for my S2000 this winter myself, and thinking of primarily the R200 as there are available kits for it, but doing it myself could also be an option. And then possibly the R230. Is the R230 a much stronger diff, or is it about the same strength as the R200?

Nice work! Where are you located?

I think a 3.90 setup wouldn't be terrible on an N/A AP2, much less a boosted one. I definitely wouldn't hesitate with a 3.70 FD in your case with that much power.. you could probably go even taller. Must be much nicer just cruising.

The nissan diffs arent that great to use.. they are all really old now and the viscous fluid does break down with heat. I went through 3 in my old 240 before I got one that worked properly and that one didnt last a year. The viscous coupling gets hot and stops working, let it cool down and it will work fine.

Also remember that different ratios and aftermarket lsd's for these things are super expensive or hard to find. a 3.90 would suck in an all motor car.

It takes about the same amount of work to put a ford 8.8 in the car and those are super cheap and very very easy to get parts for.

I do like how you made the mounts for the front of the diff. those need to be alot stronger than you'd realize! Good work
