Ive been pushing 476whp for 20k miles now on my 3582r ptuning kit since December and haven't had any issues other than tires but that's only because I use 200 tread wear tires. A diff kit is a great investment

At 400whp, you're talking about doubling the engine's output. Like other people have said, when you're running that kind of power, it's not a matter of if, but when. Comparisons to other kinds of cars shouldn't be made.

How many people truly drive their boosted s2000 daily without any backup form of transportation? From what I've seen, not many, and the only ones who do have done many supporting modifications to support many of the car's weak points.

If you are set on boosting in steps:

Install EMS and get it running while NA
Install injectors, MAP sensor,O2 wideband sensor and fuel pump while NA
Install clutch while NA
Install rear (opt) while NA
Install turbo kit/system
Get it tuned

Hopefully you can 'shake down' most issues before boost... best of luck!

I have been daily driving my 700whp+ S2000 for the past year. The only issue I have had was the Mase manifold cracking. I do have fun in the car, but at the same time, I am not going WOT every chance there is open road. However, I know its only a matter of time before my stock differential goes BOOM. Having said that I would still invest in another daily driver.

The only problem I have had is my wastegate backing out. Its my dd because I go ham. If you have everything to do it then yeah go ahead and slap it on. If its gonna take you a while then get a dd.

Imo if you have a good tuner, good install and went with the trackforged, or ptuning kit, you shouldn't have any issues. Not that the others would, but I have a warm fuzzy about the two I listed. I'm very paranoid and I fight everyday if turbo was right for me, but.....

Agreed 100%.

Even with the best kit and installer in the world at only 4 psi, things can still go wrong. When they do go wrong, it will either be minor stuff you can fix yourself and no big deal (wastegate falling off, bolts loosening, etc.), or major issues that will cost thousands of dollars and take a ton of time to fix (blown engine, blown clutch, blown differential, etc.). I used my S2000 as a daily driver for a while, but if I hadn't had another car I would have been in really deep trouble. Right now, I have three modified cars and I'm lucky when two of them are running at the same time. Typically, I only have one driving and two in-progress. I know better than to try working on a project on the running one without having a backup.

If you insist, go with a supercharger and invest in good tuning. The best engine management system you can buy (within reason) installed and tuned will still cost less than a blown motor.

If you aren't happy with a supercharger, go with a good turbo kit with a tubular manifold and use v-bands for everything you can. All bolts around the turbo and exhaust can/will back out or break. Plan to spend $10-15k. Budget kits won't make you happy and will almost certainly lead to you wanting to upgrade, or cranking the boost to make decent power and blowing your engine. Tuning and engine management are even more critical on the turbo setup. If you get greedy with boost or have a stupid tuner, plan to blow up your engine. If you have a higher mileage or neglected engine, plan to blow it. You have to be incredibly good and a bit lucky to have a 100% problem free turbo setup. It also helps if you have a spare car and tens of thousands of dollars to spend on your S2000.

If you're going to do that, this is really what you would need to do.
  1. Install EMS and get it tuned while NA
  2. Install injectors, MAP sensor,O2 wideband sensor and fuel pump while NA and get it tuned
  3. Install clutch while NA
  4. Install turbo kit/system and get it tuned
Don't mess around with an untuned EMS even while NA. NA is a great time to learn how to tune and how your EMS works. Don't plan to learn how to tune on a boosted car, the margin for error is much less. If you don't tune the EMS even while NA, plan on blowing your motor before even get the turbo kit installed.

FWIW, I followed a similar outline to what is listed above at first and it worked great, but everything snowballed massively later.
