Default Deal or No deal ?

Found a guy near me selling an 02 S2K with a greddy kit on it running the base tune on 7psi. The car was nice and drove perfect but it has 112,xxx miles and im worried about how much longer the motor will last turbo'ed at that mileage.

i am a firm believer in indestructible honda motors but anything could happen. it wouldnt be a daily cause i have a civic for that so if it did blow up it wouldnt be a huge deal but it will be financed so i just dont know if i wanna be making payments on something i would have to rebuild.

and of course at the same time since it would be my toy car i would probably do work anyway so i could do a bigger turbo and what not so idk if its that big of a deal after all. i just need some opinions! please halp!

oh and hes asking like 11,500.

OK price for a boosted s2k,

i would check for shaft play on the turbo, and oil leaks.
I would also ask for the owner to do a leak down test / compression test.

I didnt see any oil leaks. and if i remember correctly the compression test came back like 106 108 107 115. idk what its supposed to be but he said that its within what it should be.

the turbo kit has only been on the car for about 3000 miles so i doubt there is shaft play

I hope that compression tester is bad....the numbers have one thing going for them, they are consistent, and close together, but if those are indeed the compression numbers, its at about 50% of its original compression, almost unheard of for a honda motor with only 115k

maybe he told me wrong or i heard wrong. theres no way its 50% compression. i drove it last night and it pulled hard and drove perfectly smooth with no odd sounds or vibrations etc

^^ not that were trying to push away from a good deal, just trying to help you make a sensible choice.

Do a search for "good" compression #'s. if they vary from what the owner said, ask to do it again... it will just give you a peace of mind.

Also i would suggest that you get a retune once you get it if the car is still on the greddy base map as it runs RICH.

If the car actually had those compression numbers, it would probably be burning a ton of oil, resulting in considerable tailpipe smoke.

Warm the car up by taking a nice slow drive around the block for about 5 minutes, more if its real cold where you are at.

Now park the car and go around back, have him rev the car to 4k rpm a few times with full throttle, do you see blue-ish smoke? A little black smoke would be normal with an after market turbo setup, so dont worry about that, but blue smoke = bad.

If you dont see any blue smoke, I would assume his compression tester is just bad. Take the deal!

More likely the guy did a compression test on a cold motor... or he said 2XX instead of 1XX
