Default debating on an intake set-up for my vortech

Hey fellas, I've been thinking a lot about what kind of intake set up I should go with for my Vortech.

The set up will be pushing max boost on the V2 system (13psi) and I will be running the PLM front mount intercooler, and all supporting mods....

So I am thinking about 2 options:

1-get a cheap 3" pipe with a 90 degree bend to a k+n style intake cone that will prob sit just out of range for water that falls through my vented hood (the cut-hood mod)

2-modify my AEM intake that sits right behind the cut-out brake intake on the passenger side of the bumper for use with the vortech set-up instead of stock set-up... this is sort of a cold-air intake for the SC

so my main concern is if a cold-air set-up will do anything at all as far as helping intake temps/heat soak. I understand the SC unit will get smoking hot in summer when I'm pushing this much boost, so I'm thinking the benefit of a cold air intake will be negligible at best, but who knows maybe someone has done this with success.

Please give me your opinions guys!

Its not gonna make any difference. Air to air intercoolers don't suffer from heatsoak like air to water. Your gonna lose a lot more power from the intercooler itself than from intake temps. I would ditch the plm stuff and go with the vortech air to water with a big heat exchanger. Will make much more power than the front mount. Either way make the intake however you want. Its not gonna change the iat's enough to matter anyway. Go with number 1.

Why going with the fmic? That will lose you a ton of power since boost loss will be a few psi.

if youre really worried about IAT's grab a snow W/M kit and cool it all off chemically

as said the FMIC setup will drop boost a good bit, the off the shelf wortech setup does a really nice job of keeping temps cool I think.

Thx for the input guys. Guess Ill go with the el cheapo ebay intake pipe Woot!

I am thinking of tracking the car and Ive spoken with 2 guys running the exact same set-up who tell me heat soak is a real problem even with the racing heat exchanger...Ya there will be a 1-2lb boos loss, which i think will be around 30whp... I would love to keep the response (and performance) of the vortech IC set-up, but there is nothing I hate more then varying performance and being scared of overheating the car (a fear that has kept with me from the rx7 days haha)!

Anyone have experience contradictory to this?

pulley down to make up for the boost loss. it will be more then 1-2psi im not sure why but its what others have noticed on the site when they went fmic.

Yeah most seem to have around a 3-4 psi loss with a fmic.

cant pully down on this set-up, I will be already going past the max efficiency and safety by a couple thousand rmps on the impeller (at redline), and Im not too keen on blowing another thousand bucks on SC work+install for another couple psi.....

Perhaps I should reconsider the FMIC, seeing as how i will be loosing more like 40 - 50WHP...

dont go with 3 inch. the arm that comes with the vortech kit is 3.5 inch. go with 3.5 or 4 inch piping. I had the same question a couple weeks ago. I was referred to this setup

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/634...#entry14384146

I've looked at a few options and i think i'm pretty much gonna do the same setup more or less. just get the filter in that area and put a heat sheild with 3.5 or 4 inch piping i say.

oh and stick with the aftercooler, maybe just a bigger heat exchanger.

maybe moddiction can chime in on this. what are the other options for heat exchangers other than sos? you got yours from ebay correct? was it any particular kind to get?

Boostfreeze is what a lot of people are going with as its thicker 3.5" rather then 2.5"
