Diff options

What are the options for upgrading the Diff on the S. I will be boosted very soon and dont want to risk destroying my rear end.

Moving to FI, as your question is related.

Diff technics makes Nissan differential conversion.
Comptech offers a reinforced stock housing.

Rick's offers multiple gear options.

I keep hearing about these nissan diff upgrades, but what about upgraded to a kaaz lsd, or a cusco? Would these be able to support the power from a turbo S?

^ the weak point of the stock diff is not the LSD. Upgrading the lsd will not prevent from breaking.

As a matter of fact everything in the factory diff is weak.....depending on how you drive the car. With repeated clutch dump you will find weakness in the bearings, diff cap, and lsd.

Having said that if you are gentle on the clutch and drivetrain there shouldn't be any problem with stock diff. My stock diff went through vortech sc at 7 then 14psi and sc to 16psi. It only had bearing and ratio upgrade. The gearbox and axle broke before the diff, only because I took it to the drag strip and had plan to replace these parts anyway. There are many pple on here with high boost sc and tc with the stock diff without any problem yet. You should turbo the s2k and enjoy the stock parts until they die. You will only need the diff upgrade if you intend to do repetitive drag racing.

The nissan diff conversion is great though. Worry free and can withstand great fun/abusive driving.

what did you break in the gearbox ?

Not sure yet trip. My mechanic friend hasn't had the time to open it up yet. It's still collecting dust there since beginning of the year.

I bought a broken gearbox for ppg to do the gear upgrade. PPG could not make it in time for the drag so I had to take the stock box. The axle and gearbox broke at the same time. The car did not move. After the diff was upgraded, it can still drive in first gear but it sounds like a tractor. So we just replaced it with the other box.
