Diff Question
but the local diff guy told me that rubber mounts are usually used in road-coarse/autox cars not drag cars. the rubber cause the diff to get shooken up causeing the internals to loosen and brake. im not an expert, i am just stating what i have been told from experts.
rofl....glad he's an expert. I wanna know where he got his engineering PhD from.
The reason drag cars don't usually use it is because they make so much power that the rubber mounts don't hold up to the torque. That guy is a fool and I'd pull my car away from him fast if I were you. He's just stealing money from you. You'll break the diff easier with solid mounts.

Firstly let me say that I am turbo and have been forced induction for a couple of years now. I drive pretty hard at times but don't do 7000 rpm clutch drops. I am on my original diff with no problems.
That said, if you intend to abuse your diff and are looking for 1/4 mile times you really don't have much option other than replacing the pumpkin. The diff centre itself is pretty strong and swapping it for an aftermarket unit won't make any difference. And it would appear installing the Comptech caps/braces does very little also.
You can replace your diff with a Nissan unit but this will involve some engineering to mount it and mate up with the drive shaft and axles. And considering the axles aren't all that strong you may as well prpelace them at the same time. And by the time you've done all that you may well find you should have spent the $2-3K for the Diff-Technics kit in the first place.
