Default e-manage ultimate

My inlinepro kit is just about done. It should be ready to be picked up tomorrow. I have an appointment with a tuner on the 4th (ams) so I'll be bringing the s home and in the garage until the 4th. My question is, should the e-manage be installed and driven on without any sort of map (base) or should I have the tuner install it and then tune it? How long of an install is the e-manage? I think that is all they have they left to do. The mechanic was suggesting that he would disconnect the pipe adding a filter so I would not hit boost at all. He said the tuner could pull the filter off and install the pipe and the e-mange. Any suggestions would be great.

If there's an s2k-specific plug-n-play harness provided, then physical install is just that, plug-n-play.

If there's no basemap, then the car simply won't run.

After physically hooking up the Ultimate, it needs to be setup for basic parameters. A good tuner will know what to enter in setup just from guesstimating. Then it's probably driveable, but not safely boostable. Then it's on to tuning on the dyno, or at least street-tuning.

What's that pipe he's talking about?

so it'd be fairly easy to just have the tuner install the e-manage and then tune it? The pipe that goes into the intake, I'm guessing.

You can probably get the greddy map, and run that to drive to your tuner. However, you might want to have an intentional boost leak for safety until you get to your tuner, then, seal it up.

Not a bad idea. Where can I get the map?

I think he is talking about the pipe going from the throttle body to the intercooler. If you put a filter on that pipe and disconnect it from the intercooler then it effectively becomes like a NA car with an open filter on the throttle body.

In essence, yes.

But as for finding a basemap from someone.... Good luck. I've seen a lot of requests for basemaps for anything from Greddy Emanage to AEM EMS, and noone wants to share. Think about it - you've just dropped anywhere from $300 to $600 on a tune, or more, and then just turn around and spread the wealth? Sorry to sound so cynical, but this world is not as altruistic as we hope it would be...

You are talking about a TUNED map. People won't share those, but basemaps I have no problem sharing. I have sent the Greddy basemap out to at least 30 people.
