Emanage problems?
Sorry for the long post. Hopefully it helps.
I'm sure what I'm about to say will make many people surprised.
I'm running the Lovefab GT1 kit with the Greddy Emanage.
AHHHHH!!!! I know I know
The BEST shop in Louisiana, as far as I know, could NOT get the AEM EMS to work when I had the Ultimate Racing kit on my car. I had the Emanage at first that came with the kit, then decided to do it right because the car never ran well with the Emanage. They were even the ones that talked me up to the EMS. Anyway, drop the car off with high hopes. Get a call later that night from the tuner saying they couldn't figure out what the hell they were doing. I even had a base map for them.. WTF?!?! Ok... fine! Put the Emanage back in. The car was fast as hell with the Emanage anyway... but everyday driving had hesitation, sputters, stutters... whatever you can imagine it did it. Simply put... I was not satisfied. Somehow I was led to believe the car did not drive well because of the nature of Ultimate Racing's kit. I thought it was the turbo lag... blah blah blah. So I decided to get the Lovefab kit since it seemed really nice and the nonexistent lag of the GT30. Sweet, this might end the crappy daily driving. So I make the swap and have the same guys tune it on the Emanage. I wasn't about to give these guys a second chance on the EMS. The lack of a good or ANY EMS tuner near me really set me off from getting that. And I'm too busy to actually drive hours away to get it tuned. I figured the Emange would be sufficient. So when the car is done I go to pick it up. Start it up and it stalls. WTF! Start it again and it seems ok. Begin driving and it keeps stalling every time I'm in neutral and off the gas. WTF!!!!!!!!! I bring it back and tell him to fix it. Next day he says he thinks he got it. Pick it up and it seems better. Well soon after the happy thoughts the car begins stalling constantly again. I start taking things into my own hands. I have the emanage software installed in my laptop so that I could make minor fuel adjustments that I was not pleased with. So I begin comparing the current map with previous ones where my car ran better to see if I could pinpoint something. Nada.... but soon I realize a key difference. These guys screwed around with the throttle position sensor settings. Well I put it back to what it should be and bingo. Problem fixed. Never stalled again.
Well, one problem was fixed... what about the same symptoms I had with the UR kit.... very apparent still with the Lovefab. Damn... my assumptions of the kit change to fix my problems vanished. It was only part throttle issues I had problems with... and what I'm sure every other Emanage owner experiences or has experienced before their EMS swap
. On my A/F gauge I notice the hesitation and such results in, or rather is caused by a lean issue. Something just isn't right. The Emanage keeps fighting the ECU for power. I keep adding fuel... adding fuel... adding fuel. When things seem to be getting better, I get a CEL for running too rich. Dammit!!! But the problem was still there, so I didn't actually fix anything. But after months... LONG months of fiddling, resetting the ECU, banging on the Map sensor, hell even buying new map sensors.... I finally figured out how to get the car to drive like stock.... perfect A/F out of boost.... NO hesitation.... NO stumbling.... PERFECT idle... PERFECT starts... PERFECT transitions into boost.... I thought I was dreaming.
What I noticed was everytime I made adjustments pre-boost to the fuel, the car kept getting worse and worse. The ECU just didn't understand WTF I was trying to do. When I made a change, and reset the ECU afterwards, only then would things be better... simply because the ECU started fresh on a new MAP and got used to it. While it still had a little hesitation, I was satisfied. I was dumping a lot of fuel to try and remedy the problem and then kept resetting the ECU and things seemed well.. not perfect, but okay. But out pops the CEL. I was ready to purchase the AEM after about a year of trial and error. I was ready to drive to California if I had to so I could get it straight.
Then I just figured, what the hell. The problems I'm having are out of boost. My Map sensor is clamped so boosted situations aren't any problems. I can set the Emanage for the injector change so the stock ECU can apply the proper fuel for the change. Then perhaps the ECU will drive nonboosted situations like stock. So I gave it a shot. I put all preboost fuel cells to 0. Don't let the Emanage do a damn thing here. Reset the ECU. This is a key. If you currently have fuel in these areas and just put it to 0 and start it up and drive, the car will fall flat on its face. It will wonder where the hell is all the fuel that is supposed to be here. Anyway, just reset the ECU and save yourself the problems. Then I start it up. But I only do this switch when the car is COLD. If you make this change and reset the ECU when the car is warm, it will also cause problems. I let the car warm up fully just so it can relearn the environment and everything idealy. Then I go for a drive. At first the idle will be unsettled, but the car will soon learn to fix this.
Well, after that the car drives like what I remembered as stock. It feels so crisp. I can hit the throttle in any gear, at any speed, at any RPM, and the car just instantly responds. When the car used to buck like a $$$$$$ star on viagra (i know stupid analogy), the car is now super smooth. The nightmare is finally over. Now about a month after the adjustment, the car is still running like a champ. No CEL... no issues.. knock on wood. I've had more problems with the rattling issues of the GT1 than driveability after the change. Halleluhia!!!
And before I forget, I remember reading someone saying with their Emanage the car stalls on starts. Mine did this when I set everything to 0 also and would stall unless i blipped the throttle. The car runs really lean at start up and I guess this is why it does this. So in the very first fuel cell I added 2% of fuel and this fixed the problem.
After messing with every Emanage setting available (I know there aren't many.... but VERY extensive with each), I've achieved the unthinkable. Anyone here is welcome to take a trip to La. and take a ride. I'm finally happy to drive my car again.

Yup standard blue.
Did you clamp it? what values did you use? Im seriously considering a ultimate Emanage. Also what CC's are your injectors ?
Yes there is a boost clamp setting on the Emanage. I have mine set on 2.7V. I read somewhere that 2.7 is atmospheric pressure, so I just set it to that. But I've had up to 3.05 before since that's what Ultimate Racing uses. I'm using 600cc injectors.
Would you email your settings to me? On factory inj, I have mine tuned perfectly. I was wondering what would happen if I went larger.
My clamp is also set at 2.7, originally everyone said 2.9, but my car would hit the second rev limiter on that setting.
I tuned with just inj map not air flow and the car feels fine and is running safe. I never had stalling issues, which I guess is caused by the compansating of the larger inj.
