Default Engine break-in

Is there a concensus as to break in the new block with the sc belt on or off? I'm inclined to leave the belt off during the first 500-750 miles. On the other hand, it would probably loosen up an otherwise new and stiff belt.

I'm glad I can finally ask the question... been down since last August.

Don't know about a general concensus but, a few S2000 are sold right from the dealer, brand new, with superchargers installed. IMO, you can just leave it with the S/C operational and just break in the engine like you would a brand new car. Just take is easy (reduced rpm) for the first 600 miles or so. You don't get significant boost till about 4500 to 5000 rpm anyway, so that little bit of boost won't really make the engine break in any different than a new NA engine.

Thanks for the response, kind sir. My AEM EMS has VTEC engaging at something like 5750(could be lower) and I'm using a 3" pulley. After all the money that has been plunked into the car(and down time), you can be sure I'll be rolling easy just like the day I took her off the showroom floor.

You'll be boosting sooner than what I said, so be more careful. RPM and boost alone won't hurt anything. It's rpm, boost and load, so if you find yourself getting up there in rpm, no problem if you got there gently. WOT to 5000 rpm would be subjecting the engine to higher load.

Check. And I'll be sure not to run long stretches of the same rpm a la motorcycle break-in.

I dont know if your engine is built or if it is stock, and I dont know if that really matters, but Laskey Racing has a detailed break-in procedure. Here ya go:

Thanks for the link... that's who did my head work. Tuning session setup for Monday. Thinking about only having them tune to about 6k rpm and then returning when the rings have seated. Thoughts on this?

Additionally, whatever became the opinion of IK24 plugs? With my setup, I'm leary to run them again. Another step colder perhaps?

I can't comment on the tuning question. That's a tough call. Yours is not a standard supercharger setup (more boost).

Many have discovered that the Denso Iridium IK-24s will produce a high rpm miss after a few months. I've abandoned these plugs in favour of the NGK copper racing plugs 7173 (one step colder than stock).

3" pulley =' s how much boost?

who built your motor and what compression are you running since your SC'd

did you get full port and polish on your head?
