Not if he runs 2 1/2 after the split, duel 2.5 flows better than a single 3". Mufflers might have played a part in decrease in power, but not the piping.

yes 2 2.5 will have more actual area inside the pipe for exhaust to frlow but you have to look at the routing if there are alot of bends than the exhaust will have more backpressure, i logged exhaust backpressure from a dual3---2.5 setup,then a single 3 and backpressure dropped due to the fact the 3 in single will go straight out the back with maybe 2 30 degree bends in the whole system
