Default F20c ae86, thinking about boost.

Hello all. I have an ae86 that I swapped an ap1 f20c into. The engine currently has about 44,000 miles on it and runs great. I've been entertaining the thought of turbo charging it. I'm not looking for anything too crazy. Horsepower-wise I'm thinking 350-375 would be fun. I've decided to go with a Haltech computer, but not really sure on what turbo or manifold to use. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

for those power goals I would just run a log with a 3071r and call it a day

Thats kind of what I was thinking. Will that turbo have pretty quick spool?

i'm not a fan of log manifolds because you'll want more and a tubular can make better power at lower boost. but a GT3071R would be a great choice. It will spool very fast and on a pfab elm manifold for instance can make 400whp easily

you'll need to make a manifold bc I doubt any off the shelf ones will fit. find you a fabricator close to you

Don't make my mistake and get a log.
One is a log, one is a forward facing manifold. See the difference? Same boost. Log= exhaust gas reversion on f20/22.

Cool thanks guys, yea my buddy is capable of making a manifold for me, his welds are really nice. He's actually the one who keeps pushing me to go turbo. I just want good reliable power without going too crazy or completely breaking the bank. What injectors do you guys use? My fuel system currently consist of a walbro 255 stainless -6 lines and an aem FPR.

If you want reliable power, stay NA. Get rid of that shitty AEM FPR, trust me. For you power goals, 1000 cc injectors should be fine.

3071r
ball bearing 5858
efr 7064

Something like that, 1000cc id/fic/fid type injectors and you'll be golden. aem s2/haltech/vipec would all be good choices for an ecu. I would go with a custom manifold unless you can find someone locally that has a full-race ramhorn that you could borrow or maybe a pfab elt? If you went with an efr turbo you wouldnt have to worry about wastegate placement at all with the internally gated t3 version. If I could do it (my power goals are a lot higher) over I would have bought the efr version of my turbo and not had to worry about the wastegates or dumptubes. You could also go with something smaller and faster spooling, or bigger and slower. My bigger turbo on low boost hooked 450+ in 3rd gear the couple times I tried on the 225 mickey drag radials, my buddies sr corolla with 380hp makes 350trq really fast and just blows his street tires off in 3rd and 4th.
