Default FI: S/C or Turbo ...or... buy E46/E92?

Hey guys,

I'm currently leasing my S2000. My lease is up in 2008 at which time I have to decide whether I want to keep the car or buy something else.

Should I go for a Comptech or Vortech Supercharger?

Should I go for the Lovefab Turbo?

or...

Should I buy an M3? E46? E92?

FI will probably decrease engine longevity, right? Also, money spent on parts and labor and not to mention tuning... wouldn't all these costs add up to a figure in the same ballpark as the M3's down payment?

Suggestions?

(I realize this is an S2K site, but we're usually pretty objective... right?)

You want us to make a decision for you now about something that is going to happen in two years?

Go Lovefab turbo and smoke an M3. Even the upcoming ~400 crank HP M3 will be a heavy beast. Every generation gains like 200 pounds. You could very easily have 450 crank HP with a mediumly aggressive tune on a Lovefab turbo kit. Should give you a power to weight ratio to die for.

Thanks slimjim!

gomarlins3 - you're cool. If to you, the word "suggestion" means "to make a decision for someone" then I "suggest" you not post anything else that is

1. unhelpful and has no informational content
2. a waste of my and other readers' time to read.

Couple of things....

The time to decide if you were going to keep the S was when you had the option to lease or buy it. Not after the lease expires in 08.

You did not specify what you are intending to do with the car or why you are so set on FI.

You haven't stated but it has the appearance that you just want the FASTEST car out there and you want to know which FI setup will provide that for you.

How can you compare buying a $6K supercharger setup and a $7K turbo setup with buying an E92 M3?

Bottom line....your asking comparison of 2 supercharger setups, 1 turbocharger and 3 different cars...

I will answer how I am interpreting your question.

I actually looked at purchasing a 03 E46, but in the end obviously went with a 04 s2k.

Think of it this way, a comptech s/c aftercooled s2k has roughly the same straight line acceleration as a E46 coupe.
Now if you are looking for more practicality then go with the BMW, but it will have high maintenance as well as a higher resell value, so it kinda offsets it, assuming you purchase it used.

The main reason I purchased the s2k was because I have a truck for practical commuting and like how much the s2k talks to me. I am getting a s/c as well.

my .02

hope it helps and good luck. (nice problem to have)

To return the car or buy the car following the lease is a decision many people make after the lease is up, no? Your statement here lacks merit.

My goal isn't to have the FASTEST car out there but I do want to keep up with or stay ahead of the times. I don't know how much I like the idea of a GM FI'd Soltice or a Sky keeping up with me.

If you'd read my premise carefully, I was comparing the cost of FI (and don't forget installation and tuning) to the cost of the down payment toward an M3.

Basically, what I'm asking is "if you had $30,000 (let's do the math... buy off the S2000 for $20,000 + $10,000 give or take) in two years, would you keep the S2000 and FI it... or would you put it towards an M3?"

Hopefully I've clarified my question enough for there to be fewer posts regarding the apparent irrelevance and/or flaws of my initial question.

Thanks to those who have actually responded with their .02.

Gabe, I would keep the S and boost it. Make it as personable to you as possible, meaning, up the boost as needed . The beemer is nice, but my S is on moderate boost and the drive is fantastic. If you can, drive one and see. Either way, you have great options.....enjoy.

Which M3?

Since you seem to know what your asking so well and you want advice for 2 years from now and one of the cars you want advice on hasn't even been introduced yet.......

Sell everything and buy and E92 M3.

"My goal isn't to have the FASTEST car out there but I do want to keep up with or stay ahead of the times. I don't know how much I like the idea of a GM FI'd Soltice or a Sky keeping up with me."

^^ There's the primary reason to sell your S and buy an E92 M3

Flame all you want.....I'm done with your thread.
