I just got the frozenboost/siliconeintakes 3.5" heat exchanger installed and wanted to share with you guys how I mounted it. This is similar to the way AP1chief mounted his. It took me all day but it's well worth it. This is my first time fabricating something for fitment. The bumper required a bit of trimming but not much. I just got done installing the fx300 clutch and waiting for my Novi 1220 upgrade to come back from Paxton.

Bosch Cobra pump with air pump. Fits well behind bumper with no trimming.


2x 90 degree elbows. Hopefully the plastic fittings don't fail. I couldn't find brass fittings locally at the time of install.

 

 

 

The larger SOS HX is: 23 1/4" x 7 7/16" x 2"
The type 101 is: 26" x 7" x 3.5"

 

care to explain whats the upgrade Paxton will do to your Novi 1220 SL? And how much it cost you to do the upgrade? Im in the same boat, i have a 1220 SL and i like to go "stage 2" like how SOS have them listed on their site? thanks

 

​I have the non-sl 1220 and I'm upgrading to the 1200 to run more boost. From what I've heard the sl version isn't vey reliable for higher boost so im not sure how much you want to push it. It's recommended to go with a larger heat exhanger when going higher than stage 1 6-7psi to reduce the intake temperature and reduce heat soaking. I spent $210 for the HX, $95 on the pump, and $15 on the mounting hardware.

I could have went with SOS but that's much more expensive and you could save $30 by going for the thinner 2" HX from siliconeintakes/frozenboost. I think you wouldn't need to trim the bumper if you go with the 2" version.

 

PVC will over time while exposed to heat become very brittle. That is a ticking time bomb. Replace it with Brass before it breaks.

 

 

I will keep that in mind thanks! Probably will leave it in for now because it's not a critical component but I'll change them out sometime.

 

Nice. I did a similar upgrade, but used the 2" Frozen Boost air to water cooler (26x7x2) . Probably a bit easier to mount than the 3". I ran a piece of angle steel across the top, then welded an L bracket on each end and was able to make use of some existing bolts. It's been 4 years and no issues with the cooler. Great upgrade considering how tiny the stock CT cooler is!
