Fuel pump install
I installed my Walbro pump when i went SC. It was PITA...
anyway it went in, and worked fine. a few months later I found out the hard way that my gas gauge only went down to 1/4 of a tank. The gauge worked for two months
Today I decided to pull it and figure out what had gone wrong.
No surprise there the float was getting stuck on the filter. I ended up filing a small part of the White plastic clip that keeps the pump in place. that got the filter to rotate over to the side enough not to interfere with the float. If you do this , make sure that all the shaving are removed...
after I reinstalled it i have no gauge at all......
pulled it put it in again, same thing , no gauge
Pulled it again. Broke out the helms manual and started to trouble shoot it. (I thought I had broken the sending unit)
Checked out perfectly with the meter.
OK so here is the helpful part of my story...
You can hook up the plug to the pump (out of the tank) and get a gauge reading. Of course make sure the fuel pump fuse is pulled
Once I had determined that the sending unit was working I re-installed it one last time. This time I hook up the wires and tested the gauge before it went in.
it was stuck on something. I rotated and moved the assembly a bit and it started to work.
I hope Knwing that the gauge can be tested before you finalize the install helps the next person that does this.

I used the new sock and ran out of fuel once too. I was wondering why the car refused to run when I had a 1/4 tank. I added some gas and it started right up. After that, I went back to the stock sock.
