Ok, so I did some searching.... and for NEW it all adds up like:

Stage 3.9 Kit which is rated to 600hp $2695
Ford Racing M-4010-A88 (aluminum) carrier $299 (http://www.jegs.com/i/Ford-Racing/39...oductId=762991)
FORD 8.8" 28 SPLINE REAR DETROIT TRUETRAC POSI 912A562 $470 (http://www.ringpinion.com/ProductDet...and=Eaton_Posi)
(Above is NOT to be confused with Trac Loc which go for $270)
3.9 or 4.11 gearset $140 (ebay)
Installation kit (?) say #120

Total $3724

Assuming any reasonable shop could assemble the diff, how difficult is the install? New wheel bearings needed? Other stuff?

you can reuse the stock wheel bearings.

Hmm, I'm about to pull the trigger on this and I was thinking of the aluminum housing. So, strength over saving the weight, huh? Makes sense since the whole point is making it strong, I'm just stuck in that mindset of lighter is better.

What's the reason for the DPI diff costing 2x say a T-2R, how much abuse it can take?

One of these kits + this box: https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/846...ntial-gearbox/

would provide a lot of win (and bankruptcy)

passmans2kny Jun 10, 2011 06:54 AM

u can get a steel or iron one for next to nothing at a junk yard, and that quaife transmission is beautiful

Thanks for the input, this board is awesome... revised:

Stage 3.9 Kit which is rated to 600hp $2695
Ford 8.8 28 spline diff (junkyard- any diff) $50-$100 (cast iron, not alum)
4.10 gearset $140 (Richmond gear http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RMG-SFD8806/)
Installation kit $150 (I couldn't find the exact part at Summit or Jegs, but simillar)
Differential rebuild 4 hours @ $80/hr = $320
New wheel bearings- why not at this point 2 x $60 = $120 (http://www.hardtopguy.com/store/prod...7&cat=0&page=1)

AND:

FORD 8.8" 28 SPLINE REAR DETROIT TRUETRAC POSI 912A562 $470 (http://www.ringpinion.com/ProductDet...and=Eaton_Posi) or (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/DTL-912A562/)
-or-
8.8 FORD PLATINUM TRACK DIFFERENTIAL - 28" SPLINE $840 (http://www.dpiracingproducts.com/sto...products_id=34)

*Installation by owner*

Total $3995 - $4365

It's exessive, and that's why I like it!

Trying to decide on 4.1 or 3.9, do these numbers look right for an AP2?
I just copied them from the gear comp table in KManager, 50mph in 1st seems high to me.
