Default Greddy Turbo Owners

hey guys,

Im at work again and dont really have a whole lot of time to search through hundreds of post, and, even at that im not so sure i will find the answers to what Im looking for.

Im basically looking for those who have experience with the Greddy Turbo kit for 04-05 to comment on the reliability / maintenance of the kit.

I dont want the idle of my car to really be effected or such. I've heard the Greddy kit is the safest for the car and the most reliable. Could those who own share some insight as to their experience, the do's, the do not's, and any recommendations.....especially maintenance wise.

Much thanks and appreciation.

if you want the "safest" for you car and most reliable, get a S/C. Theres no such thing as a Safe/cheap/reliable turbo system.
(those 3 words together)

Plus theres plenty of time to search for information about Any kit for this car. EVERYTHING gets discussed over and over and over again. if theres time to make a post theres time to look at the forced induction section (were you posted this) and notice all the greddy kit questions.

Safe is a relative term. I have had some small issues nothing out of the ordinary for an AFTERMARKET turbo car, just search there is by far more threads on this kit than most kits.

I think the statement about S/C being more safe is not necessarily true, either of them tuned to lean etc. and boom The only advantage I see is if road racing, there is less under hood heat.

This kit is great for Low -End Torque I dont know of any S/C that make as much Torque at 3,500RPM as this turbo

I had my manifold crack and my oils lines leaked many times before I finally got them sealed for good.

How many miles on the manifold when it cracked? Of those miles, any substantial miles on the base map?

Trying to figure out the average lifespan of these manifolds; I know Joey's cracked at about 10,000 miles. I at 10k now but don't see any cracking (yet?).

I have a sneaking suspicion Joey was running a bit on the lean side for many of those miles leading to very high EGTs.

As far as the turbo, personally, I don't think the T518z will last longer than 15k-20k miles. Our motors with their very high EGTs cook these turbos on stock compression.

wrong, the t518z is very capable of going over 50k miles. it's all the care u put into it, let it cool down properly.

any FI setup has the ability to pown the motor when not tuned properly. don't go cheap on your ECU and fuel choices, it'll cost you more down the road and there is one supercharger choice that gives you low end power, but I don't want to get off topic.

the OP mentioned starting the car, AEM tuned properly will start the car just fine. I had one in my CRX for over 20,000 of daily driving and it's great. camuman has had one in his S2000 as a DD for about 2 years now. their base map sucks, that's the biggest issue.

shortly I'll have mine, I'm gonna do a whole writeup on the install and initial setup. plus I'll make my own startup map for people to use for the S2000. at the very least someone can use that map to start the car right up and drive to their tuner, it'll be 10 times easier to start than AEM's map. basically you make a couple of tweaks on AEM's map and it'll start no problem.
