Default Headgasket or bigger turbo?

After getting used to 325whp from a GT30R I need more

Now what makes more sense:

1) Installing a 2mm (or 3mm) headgasket, keep the turbo and turn up the boost?
What max. boost can I run with 2mm and what boost with 3mm? What is the power output I am looking at with going this route?

2) trade in the GT30R for a GT35R and keep the boost at 8psi. Will there be more power @ 8psi with the bigger turbo?

Any input is more than welcome

What RON/PON fuel do you have available ?

How much power do you now need ?

What else are you prepared to replace on the car (drivetrain)

Where would you like the power to come in (GT35R will typically spool later)

Referring to point 2 the GT35R should alow a marginal increase in power for the same boost as the turbine inlet pressure should be lower (EMP).

The GT30/71R turbo will support around 450whp on an S2000. We can get a headgasket for $90, install Im unsure of over there. Or, since youll have everything apart to do the headgasket, get the 35R too and REALLY make some power
I FINALLY found time to get my head off and take it to the machine shop. Cylinder walls are in beautiful shape, despite tracking the car with 270 deg coolant temps Valve springs/retainers, and 2mm Cometic headgasket will hopefully be on and running by the weekend...

You should be around 15psi to see 450whp, on the 2mm. Of course this is based on more SANE ambient air temperatures...

Why not just do it in steps ?

1. Your 98RON is about equivelant to 93 PON, log your knock and up your boost to about 11/12 psi (please visit your tuner for this), I assume you have a boost controller, if not I would suggest you get one and use a lower pressure wastegate spring. Note that if you have uncontrolled detonation skip to step 2.

2. Next step would be to install a 2mm gasket. I suggest the 2mm gasket due to the simplicity of installing it vs the 3mm gasket (valve timing) as well as the crispness that is lost with the lower CR of the 3mm gasket off boost.

This step should be accompanied by the addition of slightly more boost (tune again) as well as going to a GT35R, you might need to upgrade your injectors as well.

3. Sidewinder (GT1) and the GT4XXXR

I will purchase your current exhaust mani for a good price ....

I say turn up the boost now, see if you can tag 400whp on a stock motor!

I believe it can be done. I am going to try this after I see what it looks like on 8 psi completely tuned. I'll brobably max my boost at around 9 or 9.5 psi before I go to the 2mm head gasket.

Cody, what spring combos do I need to achieve 8 psi(at the manifold) since I am taking my pressure reading from straight off the compressor. Remember, I am at around 6-6.5 psi but I'm not sure what spring is in the wastegate right now. Is it an 8 psi spring?

Thanks.

You have a .4 bar wastegate spring; calculate that accordingly and there ya go. Id just use a boost controller to turn up the boost, or a GM boost control selenoid since the AEM EMS controls this infinitely! I havent set one up yet, but I will be SOON.

More boost by lowering compression. The GT30R should be good for a LOT more power than you're making now.
