Default Headgasket Blues

I was planning on using the SCE copper with O-Ring, but Mase, Asura, Tony (T1) and everyone but Inline has told me that they are unhappy with the results of the lowered compression cars. From what I can tell this is primarily due to the high valve overlap with the stock cams which does not allow for optimal cylinder evacuation which is amplified by the decrease in compression ratio. So if I can find a reliable cam I would buy it and stick with what I have. Or you can use a equal length tubular that has less restriction thus better cylinder evacuation. Or go meth and cool the gases that do remain.

So what should I do?

*shrug* my car runs perfectly fine.

Lets see, 300 dollar headgasket or a 4k+ built motor? Not exactly apples to oranges but I'll take the 300 dollars unless I am going for a full race car.

yes but add them up and it still doesn't work out money wise.

i'll blow a headgasket any day over a motor.

ps i've seen way worse things happen to motors with less mileage and less boost.

this topic has been discussed many times before. I put 20k on my car in a year with 500-525whp and the car does not get driven lightly. The headgasket works. If you can make that kind of power on pump without a headgasket and last id be very suprised.

The headgasket works. I dont care what facts or anything else say it doesnt, I know from real life first hand experience.

In the end its your decision.

I've only talked to Mase about it and he doesn't prefer the low compression head gaskets. he'll tune them if people have them, but won't suggest people run them.

I was considering getting one but I'm just going to leave the motor stock for now and get a laskey block down the road, they're so reasonably priced.

As said, its really your choice and your tuners choice as to what he recomends to you. I had the IP 3mm gasket and had it blow, granted it may not have been the gasket, but i opted to get the Cometic 2mm gasket. Just raise the compression a bit, but have the safety of lower compression too.

In the end, your choice

is PSI strictly what blows HG, or is it CFM combined with PSI's? I worry when I overboost slightly but its a small amount of air, I dunno understand PSI vs CFms

Its more the CFM as far as pressure goes that will blow the HG. My 28 psi is on a smaller turbo and im putting down 540whp. If i had a bigger turbo on 28 psi, id be putting down over 700whp because the bigger turbo has greater CFM.
