Default Is a headgasket necessary?

As many of you have probably read in my other posts, my power goal is low to mid 400whp. That is equivalent to 10-12 psi. Is a headgasket necessary for my application?

For EMS I have kpro which I am very competent at tuning. I originally thought I needed a hg but looking back at my RSX days I had a greddy turbo kit running 9 psi and never had a problem with the 11.0:1 cr on the K20A2. I figured the F22C1 has a .1 higher compression but has forged internals to support the extra power I am looking for...

Your input is greatly appreciated...

Edit..I have a full-race setup

I am in the same boat as you. I have a GT3076R P-Fab setup with an AEM. I have the log manifold, so i wont make quite as much power for each pound of boost but my tuner ( already paid in advance ) doesnt wanna take it past 9psi. I told him I want a pump map for 9psi and a race map for like 13psi or something. I just want over 400whp!

i think you should stay at stock compression.. if you worried about the relatively high boost you can always have a low boost (7-8) and high boost (10-12) setting..

i am a big fan of quick early spool and high compression motors for good off-boost performance

i have seen some guys running around with stock compression while still boosting 14+ psi. while it is not as common it is possible - it just requires a very good tune. mase in florida is notorious for this approach.

in my opinion though, get the head gasket. be safe!

My take on this is that lowering compression means I can run more timing in my map. Since I have the luxury of knowing how to tune and detecting knock if I have it, would you guys think I would be safe keeping stock cr since I will not see anything past 12 psi.
