Ya HKS doesn't have the corner on this. There are plenty of fast spooling turbos out there. I wouldn't limit myself.

Garretts are great also they make HKS Turbos hokies what do you have and what's good out there? I would like to do a good set up with a good smooth range

My gt3082 has full spool by 4K rpms and it hits HARD (.63ar hotside). I would look into something like this.

I personally have a Precision Turbo SC6076R. I'm fully spooled by just over 4k rpm's. PT also makes the GT3076Rb which is a Garret Hybrid that has great spool characteristics although it is a bit smaller. But it will make the 400ish HP you seek easily. You should look at SlimJim's setup considering you have an AP1. With the 3076 and supporting parts you'd make your goals and have quick spool up.
