Default HONDATA KPro

It's being released shortly. With this setup, you can pass emissions. I'm very interested in hearing feedback on this:

Unfortunately, with all the parts that need to be swapped out, this becomes on of the more invasive and the most expensive engine management option.

The following items must be replaced before the S2000 K-Pro can be used. These parts are not supplied by Hondata and should be purchased from a Honda dealer.

* Crank sensor 37500-PZX-003
* Crank wheel 13622-PCX-013
* TDC sensor 37510-PZX-003
* TDC wheel 14112-PCX-003
* Valve cover 12310-PCX-020
* Drain plug washer (for PCV valve) 94109-14000
* PCV valve 17130-PCX-003

The approximate cost of these parts is $290 (online stores such as Majestic Honda offer parts at about 25% off retail).

Which means you have to replace them with the stock ones if you elect to move your K-Pro into a different car or for some reason can not pass emissions (some states actually look at the firmware codes to make sure the serial numbers and model match - not sure if the K-Pro allows you to recode those items).

Same issue with the EMS. In CA they only check the OBD2 port for pending DTC codes. Since the OBD2 works with the K-Pro, you will probably be able to smog a car with it assuming there is a cat-converter on the car.

The Hondata is as close as you can get to OEM. It's the way to go for the +'06 cars.

You can't beat Hondata's experience with Honda's in general, it may be a pricier option for the '00-'05 cars, but you get what you pay for.

I like using KPro, its a very solid ems and easy to use. But for people in states with emission tests you will not pass the OBD2 Mode 9 test (vin inquiry) . This only applies to 2003 and up S2. The Smog computer needs to verify the vin with the ecu to verify if the same car is being tested. I contacted Hondata about this as they do not mention this and the reply I recieved was its for "offroad use only".

You 'can' pass emissions with the Hondata.

With the AEM EMS, you will not pass emissions...
Here's what you 'can' do though...

register your car as an off road race car. It will qualify if you drive less than 3500 miles (in IL at least) a year. Then you don't have to go through emissions.

I think that's right. But I'll be on my way to the DMV to confirm this within the next 2 weeks. I drive my car less than 3500 a year!
