Default How much boost.........

How much boost can a '01 S2000 handle on a stock bottom end, without sleeves, before it splits. And how much does the compression ratio need to be dropped? I intend to change pistons but want to avoid sleeving it.

thanx.

Try the Forced Induction forum...
Bottom end can easily handle 20+psi.

anyone who answers this question with a PSI rather then a HP......is giving a bad answer.

The stock bottom end according to common safe side consensus is about 350whp. The pushed side is 450whp. Anything past 450whp is asking for serious trouble. Remebmer the bottom end of your motor doesn't care how you make power...NA FI....boost, n20 etc. It just cares about hp.

~8psi on 11.1:1
~12-16psi on 9.5:1
~18-20+psi on 8.5:1

these are common and fairly reasonable ratios to run pump fuel (91) and not end up with alot of trouble.

I also would like to know how much boost I could run on my stock ap1 motor with a comptech supercharger aftercooled. I am running on a stock pulley and was thinking of uppin the boost on it but not sure how much the motor can handle stock. Any info would help greatly!!

^ I don't thinks its possible to exceed the capabilities of the bottom end with a Comptech S/C. High HP #'s are extremely difficult to reach with the Comptech. I know, I tried.

05TurboS2k is close...

Its not the boost that breaks components and it's not the power either. It's the torque.

Too much boost pressure can lead to knocking, which will certainly destroy an engine, but knocking will also destroy an engine at stock power levels.

The amount of stress on each engine component is directly related to the amount of engine torque.

My engine makes 293 ft-lbs of torque at the rear wheels in the mid range, dropping off to 240ish at redline, making maximum power of 405 rwhp. If my peak torque stayed constant and held to redline, I'd be making over 510 rwhp, but the peak stress on the engine would be no different than my current setup.

Search young one and you will find ALL of the answers your looking for. I did it a few weeks ago and I know all the answers I want to know about power out of the stock block. Never posted a Q in this forum either.
