Default How much does a SC add to the value of an S2000?

This poll assumes you're comparing a stock S2000 with an equivalent S2000 that has a professionally installed supercharger and no other mods. The SC has a moderate amount of miles on it, say 5-10k and only the basics needed to make it work with a stock ECU (fuel pump, FPR, etc).

Both cars have extensive maintenance records, have been inspected by a mechanic/tuner familiar with S2000s and have good results from compression and leakdown tests. Both run fine, don't need any work and appear to have been treated well by the PO.

I'm sure there will be some variance between the different kits (CT, VT, KW, etc). For this poll assume I'm referring to your favorite kit, whatever that is.

How much does the supercharger add to the value of the car?

none, if anything, it means the car was driven harder, regardless if its true or not.

if i ever sold my car, i would part it out and sell the car as stock.

if i was gonna look at a used car wiht a SC, i would offer the same or less then a stock equivelent, do to my feelings above.

I hear what you're saying but would disagree if the SC car has been taken care of. The buyer could always pull the SC off, sell it for $2-3k+ and be left with a stock car and cash in hand.

I vote $2k. I think most cars with expensive modifications are better maintained by their owner. The s2k is a sports car in the 1st place so odds are any used car has seen plenty of spirited driving. There are pretty clear indications when a car has been abused.

As long as the car has the proper supporting modifications I'd feel good about buying a used FI car. Red flags would be not swapping the retainers/banjo bolts on an ap1, running a clutch known to cause crank walk, etc.

As with any car I'd do an inspection with a compression test.

I honnestly think mods decrease the value of a vehicle. Honestly, i would part the car and sell the vehicle stock.

I'm in the market for a used S2K now. I wouldn't buy one even slightly modified, but that's just me.

When they are supercharged they definitely sell for more as long as it looks like proper maintenance was done and all.
Everyone says how mods decrease the value which in certain circumstances is true but if you ever actually watch them sell a car with really nice wheels and hardtop or couple other small things will always sell for more money.
Same with being sc'd. They seem to usually sell for a couple grand more than the same car not sc'd.

I think some mods almost always decrease the value and some usually don't. Obviously depends on the specific car and the buyer.

Some mods like a hardtop or an SC should add to the value, but there are plenty of buyers that don't want or don't care about those mods. I paid extra for my car with an SC on it but I could take or leave a hardtop, so I'd be less inclined to pay extra for one. I'm sure there are buyers who are the exact opposite. Something like a bodykit or unusual paint job would completely turn me off, even if it was top notch work.

Yeah I would say a custom turbo kit would decrease the value but a proven sc set up cleanly installed I say would def increase the value. I know I would spend a couple grand more for a nice full aftercooled sc'd s2k.

As the builder, owner, and seller of many modified vehicles I must tell you that anything modified from stock is always worth less than a comparable stock vehicle. Go to talk to any car dealer, finance company, or anyone with half a brain and they will tell you this is so. We all love our cars and our hobby, but lets face it. The only investment worse than a car is modifying a car. If you want a supercharged s2k you should definately not be paying any more than blue book trade in value unless the car is absolutely immaculate. Even then I would be extremely wary. Go and buy a good unmodified car and buy yourself a used fi kit. You'll have the peace of mind of knowing what was done to the car, and you won't be buying some idiots ragged out piece of shite. I spent close to 25 grand modifying my last car. On top of the 20 I paid for the car. Sold the car 5 years later for 9 and was happy to get that. About the only thing I've wasted more money on than cars is women. OH what the hell pay whatever they won't for there boosted pile, It'll probably cost you less than a piece of p-ssy in the long run anyway.
