Default how old is too old to supercharge

I want to supercharge my car..... I know that high mileage is bad to turbo or supercharge. I swapped a bigger turbo on my mr2 at 100,000 miles and it ran fine. If i wanted to supercharge my s2000 at 120,000 miles is it safe?

I would do an engine refresh THEN S/C.

The word "Safe" is a nebulous term.Any engine can blow at any time.

I say Go for it!

Every engine is going to be different. Do a compression and leakdown test, and if possible check the cylinder walls with a bore scope. Make sure all your maintenance is up to snuff and have at it!

Your best bet would be to buy a used engine and have it rebuilt by whatever shop in your area has the most experience with high performance Honda engines. Build it for boost, then swap the new engine in and do the S/C setup all in one shot. That way you're car is only down for a week or so, and you end up with a ZERO mileage engine and boost. This is going to be the safest/most reliable method.

Word. I completely agree. With the Whip Factory we did things to/with honda D/B/F/H engines of all backgrounds. They typically hold-up perfectly fine provided they run well now. My quick test:

Would you feel comfortable taking your car to the race track as is and flog it all day? If yes, S/C right away. If no, it would be wise to consider a rebuild.

My turbo s2000 makes 500whp and the stock engine has 100k miles. The last 10k miles being boosted and it's fine. My brothers s2000 makes close to 400whp and had 170k miles on the stock engine and it's fine. The last 7k miles being turbines

I supercharged my car when it had 200,000 kms on the clock. I ran 6.5 psi and it's held up great. I'm just about to upgrade to a 3.9" pulley with bigger injectors and I'm fairly confident it will run fine.

I boosted mine at 120k miles I believe. Now at 165k miles and 406whp supercharged.
I am burning some oil now though.
Like others said. Check compression and leak down and go for it!
