Improving CTSC setup, Air filter +
Guys,
I have been reading this thread and intrigued https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...0&#entry6567715, it discusses relocating the DV valve and replacing the foam filter with an AFE filter.
A few questions
1. Does relocating the DV actually help and yield power? - why? and does it then make it more have any implications for emission or reliability?
2. Swapping to an AFE filter from a foam, i cant see that helping much, i could be proven wrong.
Could it not be a case of a different 'better/cooler' day at the dyno make it look like the above 2 changes made power?
Thanks

Hmm, interesting. I'm always up for cheap hp to be had.
1: I do not think so. The stock Bosch DV that is in our kits shouldn't lose/leak any boost pressure. These are not the crappy ones that come on VAG (VW/AUDI) cars. These are the nicer ones, at least I think. I think you would be better off replacing the DV with an aftermarket if your worried about leaking. As far as making it dump into the atmosphere, I cant see how this would gain anything. All its doing is re-circulation the flow of air back right in from of the blower. You can also get DV's that do not have recirculate, where you do not have an option to recirculate.
I had this on a 400whp VR6 Jetta a few years ago, it worked great for me, and I thought it sounded good. Its a re-circulating DV though.

Turbosmart makes a few nice DV's. Here is one that has an open dump

Forge is also a good option. Here is stealthy kinda of DV that vents to the atmosphere.

2: Swapping the filter could net some gains. Worth looking into. It would be an easy thing to try. Maybe Ill do it. I know there is a trhead on S2ki somewhere that a member found the model number for the FAE filter to work on a COMPTECH Intake systems/SC Intake System...its all the same anyways.
3: You didn't mention it, but the crank vent thing I have never bought into. If I have done my reading correctly, which I am not sure if I have, all the krank vents are, are check valves to prevent boost from getting inside the engine. So basically, they are overpriced shiny check valves. All I did was use a check valve that was from a JDM ITR swap I installed into a Civic from a few years ago.
Info on the Krank Vents can be found here, please someone prove me wrong if they can.

I dont think it would be prone to boost leak, i was unaware if disconnecting and attaching just to the AC would net any gains.
Will have to find the FAE filter your are talking about.
I did run crank vents but run a catch can now taking both front+back breather ports to it, which i presume stop this boost getting into the crank case?
