There are a lot of Inline owners out there running high boost and the stock differential. Myself included. I never launch the car but I do drive it very hard sometimes.

S2000 differential housings break due to transient loading (alternating stresses) or large single shocks. Axle hop from a bad launch exerts very large "back and forth" stresses on the drivetrain and the weakest link fails, usually the housing. Extreme torque and very sticky tires could also cause a diff failure.

If you aren't exposing your drivetrain to these types of circumstances, it should last for a long time.

To put it into perspective, my car makes about as much torque at the wheels in third gear as a stock car would make in first. Stock cars don't break their differentials accelerating in first, so I shouldn't break my differential accelerating in third. First and second create quite a bit more stress, but all parts are designed with high factors of safety, so unless I get a bad launch, lurch the car, or dump the clutch, I'm really not worried at all.

Boost away.

Comptech's "reinforced diff" and cryo are a waste of $$ if you're that worried about breaking the diff. Do it right the first time and go with Inline's conversion kit.

My opinion is that of the experts that have been racing s2k's for a while now. Personal experience, no, but I do have that search function @ the top of my screen that comes in handy to see other people's experiences. There is a thread that compares MY01 MY04 and Comptech diff housings, just search for it, you'll see it. I've also heard of people still breaking their reinforced diffs. I was actually going to do it as a cheaper way to compensate for the 400+whp I'll be putting down, but after researching it and looking @ inline pro's kit, I'll take theirs.

As for you, you say you'll rarely launch the car, but it only takes 1 launch to brake it. However, you can go with a popular mindset on this forum and don't get anything til it breaks, and if/when it does, you can decide what route to go from there.

if you are going to redline it, just keep the stock diff

if you are going to launch it, get the inlinepro conversion kit.

still stock AP1 tranny here.

It'll be fine as long as you don't misshift and break the syncros.
