Default intake temps

hello guys

i have a comptech s/c with after cooler.
before a month the higher intake temp that i have seen while doing 9000rpm was 131f
yesterday that started getting a bit hot here , while in traffic i sow again 131f without boosting at all.
and when i did a hard acceleration i easily sow 158f.

what is considered to be a high intake temp ?
i undesrtand that the higher the intake temp the lower the hp , but at what temp sould i start getting worried about damaging something ?

funny i am around those IATs with NO cooling at all.

i plan on running a FMIC (whenever it gets here!) to compensate for this.

can anyone chime on on their avg IAT's with an aftercooler and/or FMIC?

you are probably past the efficieny range of the supercharger. So you're making alot more heat at those boost levels than you would at a little lower PSI!

It's not uncommon to have your IAT's be in the 130's at idle. With the datalogging i've been doing, i've found that just closing the throttlebody on decel will increase the IAT's at a about 1-2 degrees F every 1-2 seconds!

I built an air intake off my turbo into the fender by the passenger bumper. I then cut the fake fog light hole in my ap1 bumper. The air filter is behind that. After i installed my intake, the IAT's decreased 10-20 degrees! On high boost now, my IAT's actually decrease in temp, instead of increasing before! They should increase a bit when i get into the hottest months in the summer though, but thats more to do with ambient temp! The temps do eventually increase when at idle, but when i open the throttle and accelerate, the temps decrease from about 110 to 90 in about 5-10 seconds! The high idle IAT's i think that has more to do with lowered intake needs, and the coolant running through the IM, heating up the air, and shouldnt be an issue!

i have never seen 158 IAT's, but am not sure if they are really bad. Just remember, the hotter the intake air, the more likely the chance of pre-detonation! Did your tuner setup timing decreases or fuel additions for increased IAT's?

i agree - 16 psi is quite high. you may even be past the efficiency of the aftercooler in stock form, let alone the supercharger itself.

i hope you've done all the necessary mods to support this kind of boost!

you might want to upgrade to a bigger aftercooler radiator, or even a FMIC kit.

My IAT is 90-91F under boost regardless of ambient temp. I use a very small thermocouple (.4mm), it has very fast response.
Gotta love that meth injection.

im na, and i see intake temps of 130f once crusing and the mani gets heatsoaked. worst i have seen is 145 atfer about an hour of driving in traffic!!!!!! dont feel too too bad. still check out that the aftercooler is working, maybe try a nice small shot of nitrous to cool off the charge, or meth. i agree it sucks though.
