Intercooler mounting to keep black grill
I did some searching and found a couple posts about mounting the Precision 600. I want to keep the front black grill on the bumper and mount the Precision 600 in behind. Anyone know where the intercooler has to be mounted so the black grill can be kept? I have an AP1 OEM bumper. Also any tips on mounting without notching would be appreciated. From what I read, aluminum L brackets work, but with the intercooler be high enough to clear the lower black plastic? Any pics or advice would be great. Thanks.
You will just have to mock it up where you want it then find a way to secure it. With all the a/c stuff in place, it is difficult to get an intercooler to fit behind the plastic grill. Some trimming might be required.
I just put one of these in a friend's car. I will take done pics, but precision end tanks are kind of large.
The one I used is old though, when they still used garrett cores. I don't know if they redesigned the end tanks.
I will get pics when I get home from work.

Ok, so this 600 precision intercooler has a 24x8x3.5 core. I think the dimensions should be close to the same over the years.
Where it sits right now, the top of the intercooler is around .5" higher than the bumper opening. I had to take a decent amount from the bottom box of the rails. It would have to be mounted about 2" lower to avoid cutting the frame rails. The bottom of the cooler has the room to move down 2", however, the intercooler would not fill the grill opening very well.
Brackets were very easy to figure out, holds the weight of the intercooler very well (just 90* channel). Where the intercooler sits now a little trimming is needed on the grill piece. I don't see any problem moving it aft .5" and getting clearance that way. The oem a/c dryer, lines, and the horn can be "persuaded" to be kept out of the way. There is still a decent amount of space in between the intercooler and the a/c condenser.
*eh, just noticed you were asking probably for an ap1. Obviously this is an ap2....maybe some of the info can help though.

The blue tape is 2" wide. This way you can visualize the gap if the cooler was dropped 2".
