Default Iridium and Boost

Im sure this topic has been on the boards afew times but using SEARCH I have seen afew debates with no definitive answers.

I have heard Iridium plugs are dangerious for boosted motors and some say they are not. I have gotten input from a trusted tuner that iridiums will be safe, I just want some opinions here too before I make the jump for an over all consensus.

What is the threat of the tips breaking off or did this just happen in afew unlucky cases?

I ran iridiums on my KW high boost kit with no issues but it hard a very safe tune. I can't add anything technical as to the pros and cons of iridiums on boost but my experience was good.

yeah people are miss-informed when they say iridiums are bad for boost, that's exactly what they were marketed to be used for!

I ran iridiums for over 20,000 miles in my CRX and they were great, lasted eons longer than copper plugs.

now never run boost on platinums, at least not nitrous, those are baaaad my buddy melted one of those on his nitrous setup it dropped into his cylinder and turned his VR6 into a VR5.

The NGK iridiums are perfectly fine. I have heard ZERO complaints of them.

I have however heard complaints (including my own complaints) of the Denso Iridiums. (which are crap IMO).

NGK FTW.

my understanding was that people were trying to gap them causing the tip to weaken and be susceptable to breaking off in the cylinder.

you're not suppose to gap iridiums at all, which is why when I staged my Cobalt, I switched to a 1 step colder copper plug and played with the gap until I found one I liked. You have to change them a lot more often vs. iridiums, but for less than $8 a set and as easy as it is to swap'em out, copper = ftw.
