wrapping the pipe will keep heat in the pipe. I don't think you have anything to gain since the air is compressed and will have good velocity. You might want to look into how your intake air temps differ with and without that wrap to see if you are losing out by using it. It might not be a big difference post IC, but I would still look into it. What looks so bad about the pipe? Scratched?
