Default Journal or Ball Bearing

I was wondering if anyone would have any good info on if spending the extra 500 is worth it for a ball bearing turbo. I have searched myself but have mostly came across others opinions and not factual information. I know it spools 25 percent quicker or what I've seen from many post is 400 rpms quicker, seems like it uses less oil, but is more to rebuild if it breaks. I have heard the billet series journal is almost as quick as a ball bearing with the lighter compressor wheel. I plan on going with a 6266 but am unsure if it's worth the money to go with a ball bearing. My manifold is a V band but is made only for precision turbos so please don't tell me to go with another company. Thanks Guys.

I am in the same boat. In for responses. I have been told that BW has an EFR with a vband in/out config with an external wastegate option. I'm trying to find more info on it

If you can afford it, go ball bearing.

As far as rebuilding goes I have a Garrett GT35R ball bearing turbo and I had a center section go bad on me. Garrett has a lifetime type warranty where it's only $425 to get your bad ball bearing chra replaced with a brand new one. You just have to send it to an authorized dealer and they inspect it and handle it from there. It seems that all of the dealers have a different process to replace it but the one I went with it was quick and easy. Some dealers do an inspection and I spoke to a couple dealers that just do a replacement with no inspection if you say you are sending your center section in for the ball bearing replacement program.

Has anyone heard of the 7163 EFR from BW with an optional vband in/out hotside and external wastegate? I was told it is available but my online research and phone calls have not turned up anything yet.

I called yesterday looking for Geoff but he was out. I was going to call today and speak to anyone I can get a hold of. Geoff was the one who told me that an EFR was an option in my case and in the OP's case.

Another question, v-band flanges for the manifold are still measured as T3 and T4 sizes right? I believe mine to be a T3.
