Keeping it basic with S/C
I am a new s2k owner. Looking to turn my car into a track beast starting with suspension/handling mods first then engine.
Basically here is my deal, I dumped $15k in mods in my last car and one mod always led to another. I was fully bolted, some internal work, nitrous, suspension, you name it I had it. One thing I came to realize is that modding a car is a slippery slope, one mod will always lead to another. One mod with always create a weak link forcing you to mod something else. I do not want to fall into that trap again so I was thinking that when the time came, I would just slap a comptech s/c on without further engine mods.
I know that comptech s/c should be good for a car that is otherwise stock, but are there any hidden mods or weak points? For example, when/if I s/c will I also need a aftermarket clutch/flywheel, beefer axles, fuel pump etc? I am not only talking immediately but also in the future from excessive wear on a part that couldn't handle so much power. Can you leave such a kit untunned in the long run? Again I want to keep things relatively light, no more then stock s/c boost.
Please help me see the big picture, thanks.

You will need a aftermarket clutch. Flywheel would be just a nice upgrade. I would atleast go get a ap1 flywheel, which is 14 lbs compared to the ap2 22 lbs. You will need something like a Inline pro diff kit if your expecting to launch the car alot. If your not than you wont need it.
I would go a nice set of coilovers, front sway, aftermarket clutch/flywheel, and than go kraftwerks high boost sc.
Oh yeah comptech and vortech do not make any kits that work with 06+ s2000s. We have Drive-By Wire. So your choices are pretty slim. For now its the Kraftwerks SC which on high boost puts u at 350whpish.

I was hoping not to have to change out the diff, like I said I am trying to limit the number of variables that come into play as they could require more and more mods. I do not plan on launching hard. I am over drag racing and going to stick to road courses were you stay in 2nd gear+. Even without hard launches, is it possible to have issues with the oem diff in the future from such a setup?
Part of me is thinking that there base kit would be better for me to make sure it says more reliable and less mods needed, but at the same time you get an extra 50whp for the same price.
I will probably get the high-boost kit and swap out the clutch/flywheel at the same time and hopefully call it a day. (besides suspension/tires stuff obviously)
If you dont launch the OEM diff should hold with the KW kit...
turbo guys with over 450whp dont have problems with the oem diff without launching.
I am running the high boost kit myself and have ap1 flywheel, act pressure plate w/ oem disk. you should take out the clutch delay valve while your swapping all these things too.
if your planning on changing headers then do it b4 the s/c cause its your gonna have to take the rotex out to install aftermarket headers because of where the snail is located.

I think Vortech is nearing production of their DBW kits.
I have not decided whether I should get a header or not, it is just a bit hard to justify spending $1k for something that will provide minimal gains and make it a pain for smog.
For non-handling mods I am only planning on getting a test pipe, cat back, clutch/flywheel, S/C and call it a day. Again I want to make decent power, but keep things as basic as possible to avoid creating another headache of a car.
What are we looking at for labor hours on the clutch/flywheel and s/c???

Available= Kraftwerks
Coming= SoS (a few months), Vortech (Who knows, but almost the same kit as the SoS uses the novi 1200 probably), SOT Roots SC (Coming soon probably, right now beta testing the DBW kits)
Turbo
-----
Available= Every single kit you see. But you have to work about injectors and engine management. You must have a very very competent tuner who can tune DBW s2000s. And your best available engine management would be the Greddy Emanage Ultimate.
