Kpro not receiving power
Well the other day I went for my start up which did not go very well. I was unable to upload my map or do anything in my kpro. Spoke with a tech at Hondata and we checked to see if the ECU is getting power. The LED light should light up on the usb port when the ignition is turned to the on position. Which it is not doing. Figured it had to do with a bad ground or the kpro being damaged. Daryl was kind enough to allow to try my kpro in his car to eliminate one source of the problem. Plugged my Kpro in his car and bam green LED lights up. Plug the laptop in and we were able to communicate with the kpro. Daryl loaded a map onto my ecu and I was on my way pondering what I could have messed up.
Brings me to today. I put my kpro back in the car and still no LED. I decide to attempt to start the car anyway. The car fires right up leaving me extremely confused. Correct me if I am wrong but there is no way the car should have started with no power to the ecu. The thing fired on the first crank and ran flawlessly. Idled perfect, no hesitation, nothing.
WTF is going on here. How is this even possible? Anybody have any ideas what to check for?
I know I made a similer thread in the engine management forum but I am not getting any help there. I figured I would get more responses here.
Thanks
Martin

Are there any sensors on your car that are unplugged or missing? Sometimes an ecu wont load up or turn on correctly if a sensor is unplugged or missing, but its weird that your car still started with the ecu power LED not coming on. It may be that the ecu is working, but if one sensor is unplugged or missing, it keeps some of the parameters off on the ecu and makes it look like the ecu isnt coming on per the power LED.
No sensors are off, although it won't hurt to go all over the car. I will be going over everything tomorrow and Thursday with a volt meter. Thing is that the car is not throwing any codes. This just weird. I'm calling hondata tomorrow to is what they think. I spoke with hondata last week when I first could not load my map, they told me the car would not start. So we will see what happens.
The LED is for the Hondata daughterboard inside the ECU, not the ECU itself. I can't remember if that light comes on just from the ECU being turned on in the car, but I know it comes on with there is an active USB connection, inside the car or not.
That is a weird problem Martin. Not sure why LED lights on my car and not yours. Maybe it is not such a big deal. I can send you another map and see if you can communicate with the kpro with your computer. Let me know.
One thing you may check is seeing if Daryl will swap batteries with you temporarily. Sometimes the slightest voltage variance can cause the ecu to act odd. Are you using the same laptop each time as well..could be something with your USB port.
The green led is strictly based off the daughterboard communication and that can actually be damaged and the ecu part should function.

Hey Daryl, yeah I am pretty confused at this point. It still wont show ignition on in the kmanager. Still can not download or upload.
JustinC I am glad you saw this thread. The night I first tried to upload my map the car had a brand new pc680 battery put in and it has been on a battery tender since. I could maybe try a bigger battery to see what happens. I have tried two laptops on my car and Daryl used his own when I came by. Thing is though the LED lights up when I connect it to the laptop, Kmanager shows that I am online but I never get ignition on.

Alright you never see ignition on, but you do when it is in Daryl's car. So have you tried your laptop while in Daryl's car?
Need to keep things as common as possible.
Have you checked your ignition wires to make sure you are getting a good voltage at the IG pins on the ecu?

I did not have my laptop with me at Daryls house. I did check two different laptops on my car though. They all show online just no ignition.
Do you know off hand which wires they are? I am clueless when comes to electrical things. I am having my buddy come by tonight to help me with this. He is a cummins diesel tech so he should have some knowledge on this. I will also try to get a wiring diagram for the car also.
