Default Kraftwerks Install with Reflash

Hi S2Kers,
Kraftwerks S/C High-Boost kit is in the garage waiting for the weather to warm up before taking the car out of storage. Planning on having a shop install an ACT HD2 or CC Stage 2 clutch (for close to stock feel) - opinions appear evenly split with +$$ being the difference - before self-installing the KW kit. Comments/feedback appreciated from anyone who installed the kit on an 06+ with the reflash ECU. It's mainly a DD with 4-6 track days/year. Would like to avoid FlashPro + AEM UEGO for now.

Thanks in advance.

Cheaping out on tuning solution is not a good idea. Flashpro is not that expensive new let alone used.

flashpro is so non-invasive compared to all the other tuning solutions. Be happy that you are lucky enough to have a tuning solution as easy as flashpro. I've been considering selling my 03 for an 06+ strictly so I can have that as a tuning option. You've already spent this much on the kit, cheaping out on what some would consider the most important part of the build is not a good idea. ~$1000USD for flashpro and a tune may sound expensive, but rebuilding your engine if a bad tune causes it to blow will be even more expensive.

Thanks for the comments/feedback. The Hondata reflash came with the kit and is specific to the Kraftwerks Hi-boost kit per KW. While I expect a flashpro tune to maximise the performance of the kit would the reflash be conservative enough to start with. Hoping to hear from someone that went this route to gauge the difference between reflash and flashpro. Thoughts are to run the kit for a while before deciding on other mods (H/E) that would require a retune.

Hello;

If you click on some of the links in my signature you will see some before and after testing with Flashpro. I highly recommend it. The car did run and drive great before Flashpro but was far better after it. Let me know if you have any more questions.

Thanks for the great info Brian. A couple of follow up questions:
1) Did you install the SC kit yourself?
2) Was there a suitable tune that came with the flashpro for the KW S/C setup to get it going after install? Did you have it retuned immediately after install or shortly afterwards? Trying to determine if I can drive it gently to a shop after install to get it tuned or if I should just e-tune it.
3) How is the CC Stage 2 working for you?

Regards,
LC

1. No...I had King Motorsports in WI install the kit.

2. I initially had the car running on the reflash that was part of the kit. I had this with the reflash from April of 2009 til November 2009 and it was quite enjoyable. I had the car tuned the same day that I bought Flashpro so I'm not sure about the tunes that are supplied with the FP software. I do believe that there IS a general tune that one can use that would be safe for a while. I noticed a big difference the day I drove the car home after the FP and a tune!

3. The CC is working great. The first clutch disc came apart last year for whatever reason. ...a long story short CC replaced it at their cost and all is well now. I originally had an 11lb FW and never liked it. When the new clutch was installed last year I put in an OEM AP1 14lb unit and I could not be happier.

Thanks Brian. Doubly convinced - Flashpro it is! Ordering it from Chris@NLM tomorrow. I'm also sticking with the AP2 flywheel but will have it machined. Did the CC replacement also cover the labour involved? Although I hear they're great with the warranty the need for a potential claim may be the only factor that swings me towards an ACT HS2.

You are welcome Sir. No...CC did not cover the labor. ACT is great too. I know a couple friends that have done the HDSS PP with the OE disc and had great results.

Good luck!

It'll be early May before everything gets installed (work, family) but I'll update this thread with progress as things get completed.
