Default kraftwerks S/C vs SOT blower

ok so here is the deal, I have an 03ap1 and am looking to go boost in the fall.

now I love the feeling of the F20 but I am always wishing for more power all around.
I plan on getting in to road racing and autocross eventually but I also DD my S and it is my only car for the time being so I think going Turbo would be a poor choice.

that being said centrifugal chargers are out for me, I just think they are entirely pointless, having to rev to past 6k to even see boost is just silly to me.

I'm looking for something that can compliment the F20 well and deliver a good broad powerband, the SOT blower and the kraftwerks seem to be the best choices to me, I think I'm leaning towards the SOT but I haven't really looked in to the kraftwerks because to be honest until yesterday I thought it was just another centrifugal.

anyway, has anyone here driven both? or is someone very familiar with both systems and can give honest advice/debate on the topic.

it looks like the SOT tops out around 350whp with 220ish wtq with a very linear tq curve, and the KW can do a bit more, like 360-365whp, and more tq above 6k, but under 6k it has less than the SOT
edit: these #'s are from dynos I have seen with whatever the max boost the charger can handle is, correct me if i am wrong.

PM Mark (MugenRioS2k) as he is one of the beta testers and can give you all the info you need on SOT.

There are members that have 380+ hp with the SOT kit and high boost pulley. I think with the right mods you could break 400.

You can get the SOT to 400whp if you're willing to spend the time and money, and it has gobs of torque. Camuman is another who has done a lot with the kit. I hear the throttle response is great--torque of a turbo without the lag.

On the other hand, I would guess the KW will probably turn out to either be a similar price with more power or a lower price at equal peak power vs the SOT, and it is pretty much a plug-and-play install, where the SOT takes a bit more work. Also, as a minor counter to the torque advantage of the SOT, many of the KW owners are happy with the increasing powerband (like stock) for tracking as it helps keep wheelspin down at low RPMs--meaning corners are *easier* on the track. Obviously more power should be faster, but it may be worth a thought (if fun per dollar is your goal over lap times) since the KW is so much a plug-and-play deal. And the SOT reportedly changes the character of the car, which may or may not matter to you.

But if you have enough money to get the SOT up into the 350-400whp range without thinking twice, that's the option I would take, given what you said your initial wants were. Either one seems like a good option; it just depends where your priorities are.

I see both as great options!

how exactly does the SOT change the way the car drives?

I haven't driven one, but looking at the dyno the tq curve is pretty flat, and the tq curve is also fairly flat on the stock S, it looks to me like the SOT would have almost the same feel as a high revving small N/A V8, but like I said, haven't driven either. and as far as the money that goes in to the SOT I would probably end up buying the regular kit and upgrading things one at a time later on down the line. maybe starting with the base 300ish whp then going high boost later if cost becomes an issue.

yes, I have read up on both a bit, but I guess I was looking for a direct comparison between the two, sort of along the tune of the CT vs VT thread, but about blowers that get a much better powerband and are more suitable for both street, autox, and track. basically an alternative to going turbo.(unless someone is shooting for 400+)

and I had not heard of anyone going past 350ish with the SOT.

Well that's not how it works. If you have a 7psi pulley pulley then you're getting 3.5psi at 4500rpm. If you've got a 14psi pulley then you're seeing 7psi by 4500rpm and 3.5psi at just below 2500rpm. These are just approximations but its not like you don't get any boost below 6k......
