Default Meth Failsafe - Dumping boost from the BOV?

Hi,

My Meth kit is currently set up using the arming switch to switch between a pump gas map and a meth map when it's armed using my AEM 1052. I believe it's possible to have the AEM meth kit to trigger back to the standard map if it detects an issue from the controller using the 12v failsafe wire. I'm not quite sure why my tuner hasn't done it this way though. Does anyone know how difficult this is to do?

Failing that the other option would be to wire in the 12v to a solenoid or something to drop boost from one of my Bosch valves but i'm not quite sure how this would work.. Does anyone know if this id possible at all?

I'm going to have the car back for a few weeks while I wait for my 8-rib setup to arrive then it will go back to the shop to get finished off.

Cheers

What is your full setup? Yes, it is possible to use the BOV dump as a failsafe.

Hi,

It's the AEM progressive meth kit for my Paxton 1200 kit with a front mount intercooler. I've got 2 Bosch re-circ valves plumbed into the charge pipe also.

The arm switch currently activates another map. I'm not sure where the failsafe wire is linked to though, I've only got the warning LED I think. I want the boostsafe wire to link up to something to make the BOV open up when it detects a problem!

What about setting up an option to run like a nitrous timing retard trigger, where it would start pulling timing?

You need something like this. Most water/meth injection companies sell a electronic vac controlled switch as well, which may be a better fit to work with controlling a BOV vs a Waste gate. Idea is the same though. Id call one up and ask them. Snow performance, Devils own, AEM to name a few.

Not as good. If your running high boost and a narrow timing window already, hitting high boost and retarding timing could melt the motor from too high combustion temp. Safer to just evac/bleed off the boost.

cheers guys.

So yeah I've been looking at those MAC style vac solenoids and that will work with the 12v failsafe output but can't figure out how it would work? The BOV dumps air when there is a vacuum right? even if it stopped the vac and it went to 0 would my bov still dump air? I imagine that how it works?

Honesty I never incorporated one of these vac solenoids into my set up when I ran meth, I was looking into it but never executed. I can say from some experience though that if your running a traditional size 25mm Bosch valve (even x2) that it likely wont blow off enough to eliminate the threat completely, so it made me think that incorporating a more conventional turbo style waste gate may be the best option, and then you can utilize the control switch I linked you to from SOS. It would be more expensive because you are purchasing the waste gate and fabbing to your system, but it would likely prove more reliable and effective ala its 2.5-3" dump.

A waste gate works. I have this setup on my sc.

I'm using a failsafe to trip my solenoid to open the gate when the methanol flow drops.

That's awesome.. Any reason you used a wastegate instead of using your turbosmart valve?

What are all the components you needed to do this? Do you also have the meth flow gauge?

Cheers
