Good timing, MotoIQ just posted an article on the AEM water/meth kit.

-sigh- what's with the Greddy hating? I know I could've spent twice as much and gotten 100HP more, or 200HP more, but this thing kicks in at low revs, gives me a ton more power and torque at the low end for not much $$$. Also it's (mostly) reliable and pretty well built. Makes me happy, therefore it's amazing
I'm not on the hater bandwagon. I think the kits are great for their purpose and price. With a good engine managment they make for awesome street cars

I dont think you can use the words "greddy" and "amazing" in the same sentence, unless its "the greddy kits sucks an amazing amount of balls"?

haha

But honestly, any decent turbo kit is better than none. I rode in hardtopguy's turbo S when I was still NA and the torque was still impressive

Just curious.. whats the life expectancy of a motor with Greddy kit?
I recall reading that the poor manifold design burns out the exhaust valves & warps the head over time.

There are guys with 100k and more on Greddy kits, so I'm not too worried...

Not hating, how much did you spend for your complete setup?

How much power did you make, just curious?

Interested in putting a dollar/whp value on it as compared to other kits out there.

Hm, well I got the kit for $3,600 new. Then had it tuned at PTuning, who by the way did an awesome job. That involved buying a bov and boost & a/f gauge, forgot what it came to, but I think it was around $1,100. So it's now running 10PSI and was dynoed by them at 295hp at the wheels. So about $4,700 for a kit that makes my car drive infinitely better than stock, with very quick response from the turbo and great driveability without waiting for it to spool. So far really reliable, too. Highly recommended.

My water/meth injection question is mostly just curiousity, I think it'd be cool to have more power, but I don't feel I need it. If it's not going to affect me getting on a track, then I'll do it, but if it is, I won't.

Thanks for being honest.

So for close to $5,000 bucks, you gained less than 100whp. That is where I think the "hate" comes into play. For the same relative amount of money, you could have made, 300/400/500 easily.

This isn't a negative comment, just explaining what I think is the reasoning behind it.

I think it would be interesting post to see a whp/dollar amount for the most common kits out there.

$5000 bucks doesn't even touch my motor, let alone my turbo kit and tuning and KPro. Also, my Puddymod rearend, my AP2 tranny, all of the wheel and tire upgrades to run higher boost. Yes I made 500 whp, but not for $5000.

No problem. I really just wanted a simple, reliable bolt-on. I keep reading horror stories about all of these other kits and custom setups that need constant maintenance and replacement. I think for bang for the buck this kit is awesome, especially once tuned. It's way too much power for winter, I have to be really careful launching and flooring it, and it's a blast to drive. And like I said, spooling starts really really early in the rev range, so I can drive in mild traffic and still really feel the turbo. I felt like with other setups I'd really have to flog it to 5k rpm or so.

I did look around at other kits, and for $5,000 installed and tuned, I don't think there's a better deal (well, I could've done the Ebay kit, but we all know how well those work).

I'm tempted by the PTuning kit with a smaller turbo, but I really love the low rev response I get from mine!
