so mobil 1 10w30 is fine?
Yep. But I'd switch to a 40 weight. I think it offers better film strength/protection for the higher heat produced in Fi set ups, especially turbo. Besides, our motors call for a 30 weight in Dino oil which is thicker then Syn. Good to move up a weight for that reason too.

Castrol syntec 10w40 and have been happy with it. Hated Mobil 1 and seems to be crap from many reports and tests I have read.

I think there is more to choosing an oil than just deciding what weight.

Depends on bearing clearances (stock/built), weather conditions, etc etc.

Saying 10w30 is like saying 25 lbs of boost..if you don't provide details it doesn't mean much.

I highly recommend Amsoil, just look at how badly the others shear and also take note on the TBN after 3k miles... Amsoil trumps the competition in so many aspects.

My Amsoil always looks great after 3k miles

Mobil 1 shears to hell and has very low TBN
Same problem with royal purple

BOBistheoilguy.com best place to get substancial information and research you need for your choice. If you are changing your oil out after each night at the track or strip then im sure the differences will be negligible. If you keep it in there for any distance then its good to see what adds up.

The initial composition of the oils is usually posted by the mfgrs and if they will not let you see the chemistry then obviously they have something to hide.

I'm currently running Rotella 5w-40 synthetic because its cheap and obviously meant for turbos. I really considered brad penn 10-40 but decided against it because most people say to use a synthetic for the heat of turbos and brad penn is only partial so I wasn't sure. Also winter here is below freezing so I wanted a 5w rather than 10w for cold starts.

If you're catless, get mobil 1 5w-40 turbo diesel
thats what I have been using since you made the recommendation. I like Amsoil, however it's nice to just go to store to pick up oil

I too am a fan of Amsoil and run their oils.

Any chance you've had an oil analysis done (on the FI'd s2k)?

I installed my SC back in mid August and switched to Amsoil 10w-40 (from SSO 0W-30) and I'd be surprised if I had more than 3kmiles on it come next August. Just curious to know how the oil could look by that point and if it "needs" to be changed or not. Whenever I decide to change it, I'll get it sampled and analyzed.

I had a sample analysis done on one of my other (N/A) cars on SSO 0W-30 at ~8500 miles over 9 months or so, and they suggested going to 10k the next go round.
