Default Motor break in

What is the proper method for breaking in a built motor? Laskey reccomends dyno tune first and others reccomend driving the car for 1000 miles to seat the rings.

I would imagine it's the same as any other new car.

dyno tune first - get ur a/f ratio in a safe range and then drive a few 100miles - then tune again for maximum power

Who did you get your motor built by? Do whatever they recommend.

Driving without a tune sounds like its asking for trouble and getting 2 tunes done sounds expensive as well...

Ideally, you should dyno tune it to get the optimum AFR before you break it in. Once it is fully broken in (typically around 1000 miles), you would then dyno tune it for power.

two tunes is cheaper than two motors.
get the tune first, start up should be once to check for leaks then shut it off and tow it to the tuner for a basic tune up then drive a 500 easy miles (no vtec) and then install you turbo/supercharger kit and have the second tune. it should only cost you about 500 for both tunes

I say build it and tune it. what needs to be broken in? if the rings are cut correctly nothing has to be done but it on the dyno do some low rpm passes and than make POWER

Tuning the car= taking the car to the limit.
I couldn't imagine tuning a brand new motor.
I would get the AFR's correct and then go with a break in period for the motor/trans etc. and then change the oil and plugs and go in for your real tune.

One of the most asked questions is how do I break in my new motor? The short answer is that no break-in is necessary. The only thing that is necessary is to seat the rings. All clearances and fitments should be perfect after blueprinting and precision assembly. So how many miles do you have to drive it to seat the rings? The cylinders are round, the rings are round, the bore is freshly honed and therefore your engine should be ready for tuning immediately. They will continue to seat better over a short period of time but you should be ready to go tune right away.
Do I need to drive it 500 miles before I tune it? Absolutely not. How about 50 miles? No. Perhaps the best thing to do is to drive it all the way to your trailer and tow it to a competent tuner. In second position on the
