Default Need help identifying turbo

Hey guys, i'm going to be boosting my civic soon and have been searching for turbos, and found one on craigslist. The pics werent to great and were small but the guy said it was a turbonetics t3/t4 turbo, and was previously installed on a BMW. It was originally an internal wastegate turbo, but they took the parts off and blocked it off and used an external wastegate with it. He sent me some pics and it doesnt have anything that looks like a turbonetics turbo. The downpipe flange isn't the same, there is no Turbonetics or T markings anywhere on it or anything, and it doesnt have a color backplate on the compressor housing.

The turbo is cheap and comes with oil lines and everything so I wouldnt mind running it since it's cheap and seems like a decent turbo if they were running it on their BMW, but he said it blew the headgasket and he is just going to part the whole car out, that's why he is selling the turbo setup.

Here are the pics he sent me of it. Does anyone have any clue on what kind of turbo this is? It doesnt seem like an Ebay one because the exhaust downpipe flange is never like that. Also is there a certain name for that kind of flange?

Not yet, the guy is asking $200 for all the stuff you see there, but I obviously won't be using the manifold or the wastegate since it looks welded on. I mean even if it blows up it's just $200. He said it was pushing 14psi fine until the headgasket on the car blew and has no shaft play, and has about 2500 miles on it. I just need to see if anyone has any idea what kind it is.

That is true, and one reason I made this thread. I need to know if anyone knows what kind of turbo it is to see if it's even worth the $200.

You always get an oil restrictor/filter with Turbonetics, a brass thing glued to the oil inlet. And never seen one without the T or logo on the compressor. I´ve used hundereds and never got one without it. This looks like a China turbo.

Go to the pick-a-part amd buy a used Volvo turbo, the TD04-16T from S60/V70 T5 will push 330hp and last forever. Internal WG and BOV that will make your build easy and never give you any problems. They have a modified T flange with oval hole instead of rectangular.

Just a thought if you wnat high quality to a low price.

for 200 buy another used turbo, if they ran that sloppy manifold and knock off waste gate turbo is probably iffy also. You can find a used 60 trim or small t3 for dirt cheap these days on honda tech or craigslist even ebay. Stay away from chinese knock off turbos they never last.

It doesn't look like a dodgey ebay one, it looks like a dodgey craigslist one. .
