I watched a special on TV where they installed the STS kit on the Corvette. Since the car is so low the piping runs inside some of the panels. Also the turbos were mounted way back at the rear like you see on that cobalt.

There is supposedly no need for an intercooler since the length of the piping is supposed to sufficiently cool the air on its way back to the front of the car. STS is adamant that their kit doesn't lose much power over typical kits.

Whatever the outcome is I'm not interested in throwing all that weight in different directions on the car. And watch out for TRASHED air filters.

I would try one if they would give it to me for free. Short of that I am plenty happy where I am at.

Interesting idea.

im gonna re-pipe except make the piping wrap up the rear of the trunk and go straight up into the air like a big rig.....that'll keep the turbo nice n cool too!

on a more serious note....the long piping could have air fins welded to it to greatly reduce the temps.

pretty sure that vette did get an FMIC. I also think that a bigger motor car will work better for this kit since it will be laggy with all that plumbing volume. I'd still be curious to see one on an S.

The only way they can claim this is with a big ole V8. I guarantee on a 4 cylinder, it sucks and has some major lag issues.

forgot to mention that they had made a kit for an AP1 and it showed very good numbers and response time. This was a custom one off kit for one of there return customers that also has one of there kits on a Vett.

I do not think that customer frequents any of the S2000 forums.

Would love to here his experience first hand.

I think they used a modified GT2871RS

STS uses well matched turbo's and smaller A/R's for rear mount setups for the exact power goals of the kit. For example their 350z kit uses a t04e 60 trim with a O trim turbine wheel and .58 A/R on the exhaust side which is very well matched for ~8-10psi on a stock engine and ~350-400rwhp.

Turbonetics uses as larger turbo, their 60-1 stage V ball bearing unit which probably has 100 more rwhp (if the up and down pipes were not so limiting on their stock 350z kit) and yet both kits have about the same boost thresholds and turbo lag.

For a mild setup I say a rear mount turbo probably isn't so bad, and will produce a better power curve then a supercharger.

That being said I would like to know how it felt on a stock ap1 myself, the ap1's driving character is aggressive--a snappy rwd with good throttle response and if a rear mount owned the throttle response I probably wouldn't be on board with it.
