Ello, just installed a new Fullblown radiator in the s2k. Had no issues with over heating before the install. I've tried jacking the car up and, start it with the cap off and heat on blast. turn it off, bleed the system till it was a constant stream out of the bleeder. Took it for a few drives and it drives fine, but after a few, especially in stop in go traffic, the car overheats. top hose is hot, bottom hose is cold. fans work just fine.. Any ideas? would my thermostat be working fine and all the sudden need a new one after new radiator install? im using oem coolant.

 

Sounds like there is air is still in the system, particularly in the head at the temperature sender. You should use a funnel that will seal to the top of the radiator and fill the funnel half way. Then start the car and turn on the heat. After warming for a minute or so open the bleeder on the intake and let it bleed until you get a solid stream of coolant with no burping. Let it heat up until you feel the bottom radiator hose start to warm up. Then let the car cool for a few hours at least and the coolant level in the funnel will lower quite a bit. Cap the radiator and fill the overflow and start driving. Check the coolant level for the first few drives and you should be good.

Obviously there could be a problem with the thermostat but that is unlikely.

 

I agree. Sounds like air in the system. I have full blown radiator and have no issues.

yup air in the system billman has good write up on here for burping the air out coolant on here! i have same radiator no issues

 

Everyone talks about bubbling out the air bubbles, I've completely drained and refilled systems and seen no problem ever. I just squeeze the tubes a few times to help it along and that's that. I guess I've been luck or something. for me! lol

 

Bleed it and u will be fine.

 

Which begs the question - why did you fix what wasn't broken?

 

Like many others have mentioned. You have air in the system. The helms, and Billman has posted it, has a procedure for bleeding the air out.

 

yeah I kind of regret it now but damn the FB looks so good in the bay compared to oem.. once its working properly, itll be worth it.. and before the temp used to get a lil too hott if i didnt have the heat on in the cabin.. so i usually cruise around with the heat on all the time.

 

My oem couldn't keep up with the heat.
