Default Possible inexpensive tranny solution

Hey guys,

I got to thinking. I wonder if the nissan 350z or 370z 6 speed tranny would be a good solution to our weak trans? In stock form, the 350z tranny is working well at around 250 tq, about 100 tq more than ours and with the 370z, its working well at around 270 tq, about 120 tq more than ours. Which I would think would last quite a bit longer at doubling the tq with turbo as apposed to tripling+ the tq of ours.

Has anyone looked into trying to swap the 350z or 370z 6 speed into our car or would it even work and put the shifter at the stock location so it looks stock? Is the 350z or 370z tranny even a very good trans from reports of people abusing them; with turbo or sc'd z's making big power and tq numbers? I mean, we all know the old 300z N/A diff is strong and works well on big power S's.

I found this and the 03-04 350z may have problems but the later years are good to go. Read this article on how strong this tranny is.

BTW, I found a 09 370z tranny on ebay for $1440.

Give your thoughts and comments.

Don't forget about the cost of making it work. Adapter plate, shifter, starter, flywheel, clutch, clutch controls(slave, fork, etc.), trans mount, machining/labor costs, etc.

I really don't think you are going to find an "inexpensive" solution other than turning the boost down.

Its really depend on how you drive them. My Z put down 380 tq no problem, but was SC tho and I drove pretty agressive on street.

Many stock block Z/G guys putting down around 400tq and when I stayed on their forum all the times, I really didn't hear any issue with stock tranny. Those guys more worry about their block than tranny.
I do not know about 370z tho, I didn't really care to look.

i used to have a 350z.. and the more you look into it i think your gonna find that trannys are not as strong as you may think.. i had to have mine replaced with 30k miles on it, no mods what so ever. if you do try to go through with this, get a trans off a 07+ hr motor or a revised 009 coded trans off a DE motor.

PPG gears ftw as long as you can justify the cost of them , if not just keep replacing them!

Doesn't fix the casing coming apart. The shafts like to run away from each other at higher power levels.

You may be right there. The cost of getting it to work may just be as much as the PPG synchro gearset.

I'll probably just have to break down and do the PPG's.

You guys have to remember, swapping out trannys with good used ones will only go so far. Those good used trannys will come to an end in time i'm affraid.
