Default possible to use comptech aftercooler on turbo setu

Is it possible to use the comptech aftercooler on a turbo setup instead of a front mount? This may be a really stupid question but I've just had such bad experiences with FMICs and the Aftercooler has worked wonders for me.

Also, another probably stupid question, but only having experience with superchargers, I know we state our "whatever lb" pulley and then how much boost we're actually running when we talk about our dyno runs and whatnot. If a turbo kit gets say 300hp on 7lbs of boost, is that 7lbs of boost before or after the intercooler?

Thanks,
Dave

LOL, I hope it's not a stupid question because it's one that has been floating around my mind for a while now.

I sold my SC and am going turbo but still have the AC. I've mounted an FMIC and cut a bunch of pipes for it but am horrified at the twisty path it has to take and all the trips I'm going to have to make back and forth between my garage and the fabricator. I'm considering using the more direct path and the AC at least in start up stage and seeing how it goes.

With a turbo you are producing boost a much higher percentage of the time so the cooling system will be working harder. It may even warrant the Spearco front mount radiator. But the charge path is so short you would have a lot less lag and much better throttle response.

As for the last part, that's 7lbs at the intake manifold, so after the FMIC path, restrictions and cooling.

awesome! Thanks for the info. I'm getting rid of the SC as well for the turbo route. I've got a lot of planning to do, and millions of questions keep popping up. I appreciate the response!

The turbochargers produce a significant amount more heat into the compressed air so the aftercooler would probably get saturated very rapidly.

I'd suggest looking into a Laminova cooler core if you are wanting to persue a aftercooler for a turbo. There is a signifigant amout more air and heat from a turbo at 8psi from 4K to 9K than centrifugal SC 8psi at max rpm.

thanks for the heads up SlowS2ki! I'll definitely look into it.

if you do decide to go this way, just make sure that you fabricate some sort of bracket to support the aftercooler. Otherwise the extra weight of the aftercooler + water, on top of the heavy turbo, might be too stressful for the manifold.

I'm confused. I finally sat down and took a look at the sight, I'm not really sure what I'm looking at. These don't look like aftercoolers? How do these work? Do they somehow work in conjunction with the comptech aftercooler, or am I just way off completely.

Thanks,
Dave

They work the same way, you're just not used to seeing this type of heat exchanger. Trust me, it's the same thing. Check out Spearco air/water intercoolers as well.
