Default Precision 600 HP Intercooler Mounting

Question for those of you who have installed the Precision 600 HP intercooler. It measures 31.5 (tank inlet to tank outlet) by 8 by 3.5 inches.

If the intercooler is oriented with inlet/outlets toward the bottom, that puts the tabs and tapped bosses toward the top. The tabs/bosses will not fit between the frame rails. However if you to notch a 2.5 inch high (measured from frame rail bottom) by 4 inch wide section out of the inboard edges of the frame, you are able to mount the intercooler further back from the grille and upwards a bit. You can also drill a hole on the outboard part of the frame rail on each side to put a bolt through that screws into the intercooler bosses. This provides the same depth from grille and vertical location of the bottom of the intercooler that is used in the 325 HP Ultimate Racing intercooler setup. And wow, that 600 Precision is just gorgeous.

So my question -- is what's described above the way that people are mounting the Precision 600 HP intercooler? Or is the Inline Pro version somewhat narrower such that its tanks fit between the frame rails?

Thanks for your insights and recommendations. I'm also open to suggestions on shops you recommend for anodizing my intercooler black. Idea is to be very low-profile when it comes to thieves casing parking lots, cops looking for reasons to hassle, and street racers looking for someone to joust.

Thanks,
Stanford

Here is a decent thread discussing mounting.

Seems there was another but I can't locate it doing a quick search. As for anodizing due to the cast end tanks I don't think the whole thing can be done. If you find a way that works well however let me know. I for now plan to go the eastwood rattle can route.

Ding ding ding ding ding. That's EXACTLY the kind of insight I needed. Thank you!

Glad I'm following the same path others have devised. Was beginning to think I should have gotten the Inline Pro, but from what the thread says even that one may be mounted lower than the way the pics with the 600 look (and the way I'm mounting mine). Also nice thing about the way we're mounting it is that it is spaced back from the front of the frame rails, allowing me to keep the stock S2000 grille.

Thanks very much for your help. Have a great one...

Finishing out my installation now and sharing some pics of the recessed Precision 600 mounting approach described above. Here are a few links to photos of what the end-product of recessing the intercooler to accommodate the factory grille. You can see the intercooler when looking straight on, but as your angle changes from knee height up to car or walking height or from the side, it's more difficult to see.

Front view, knee level

Front view, standing

There are some other shots within these folders showing the trimming of the radiator support, the way you use studs to mount the intercooler and bolt the studs on both sides of the frame, smoothing off of the tabs on the intercooler's top, etc.

Hope it's of some help to others who are considering the Precision 600 intercooler. Very happy that I invested the time to recess it. FWIW, the recessed approach also allows you to run the same intercooler pipes as what comes with the Ultimate Racing kit.

Thanks,
Stanford
