props to Comptech for excellent customer service!
Just want to tell everyone my great experience working with Comptech. Special thanks to Shad, Billy, and Ryan for all their hard work!
Brief back ground: I developed a leak on my SC a two weeks ago (Click for previous thread). I called Shad @ Comptech to describe the problem(Wednesday 1/11). He asked if I could come in for them to inspect the problem - schedule for yesterday (1/20). Arrange with time with Billy (does scheduling).
I arrived at 750a...greeted by a friendly receptionist, and then directed to Billy. I speak with Billy for a bit, and show him the pictures I've taken. He noted that it does appear to be coming from the external shaft seal. They've encountered a similar problem with a few Paxton sc's that came in several batches during the summer. Unfortunately, since Comptech receives the sc's in batches of 5-6 from Paxton, they cannot determine whether the sc's were manufactured at the same time/batch. Out of approximately 18, they've seen 3.
As a result, Billy stated they will be replacing my sc!
No charge!
I was allowed to watch the whole r&r of the sc and the new sc. Ryan, one of their techs, worked on my car. He was very thorough, and careful with my car (made sure there were towels and shop tarp on the car). RR of the sc isnt' all that difficult - 7 bolts, and dismounting of the AC (dont' have to remove it completely). Access to the drain bolt wasn't difficult either.
Ryan took approximately 2 hours to remove my old sc, dismantle, install bracket and replacement bolts onto new sc, and finally reinstall. Total time there: 3 1/2 hours. This also include 3 dyno pulls.
(will post that info on another thread).
My impressions of Comptech: I thought it would be an impersonal company, considering they cater to such a large population. They are far from it! Shad and Billy not only do administrative work, they were in the shop working on the cars! Shad, Billy, and Ryan are extremely knowledgable and technically savvy, with the ability to apply their knowledge on the cars they work on and advise about. Comptech felt more like a small family owned shop (which is was originally).
While there, I met Mark, their CEO, and several of the other workers. Billy gave me a tour of the facilities, as well as giving me Comptech's history. They didn't make me feel like "just one of the customers." Before leaving, I met another long time customer who only had great accolades for Comptech.
(Btw, Comptech is working on a 2.4L engine for the S.
)
Here's the old charger removed

Ryan cleaned everything off, even the brace that was cover in oily residue

Finally, new charger spinning!

That is a great company. Great products and service. I bought something from them and asked to return it, I was being too picky, even in my opinion, and they did it without even a pause.
So give some more info on the 2.4 - is it a modded 2.2 or a whole new engine?

Custom crank and rods.
Been on the agenda for 6 months.
Should be a monster once they get it sorted out.

Would you still be able to supercharge it? (I'm assuming you could since they focus on that).
HP was not disclosed.
It's been a coming soon item for them since mid last summer.
They say it will work with moderate boost and a lower redline.
The emphasis being on reliability.
